Published Video/NPAPI Plugin Issues Causing a Nightmare

Jun 19, 2015

We recently upgraded to Articulate 2 and started using a new video-based model for elearning. The courses are running great (for some users) and the others (typically IE users) are not working at all.

Most users on IE receive a blank screen inside the LMS and nothing happens. We had one of these users switch to Chrome and received an error saying that the file was trying to access a NPAPI plugin that is outdated and no longer used. I can't find anything related to this NPAPI plugin inside Articulate, but I'm wondering if it has to do with the videos we just recently started using.

I'm producing the videos in iMovie and publishing them from there with medium quality and dropping those in the Articulate file and publishing from there with standard optimization. Does anybody know why this file is giving me so much grief?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Andrew -- Sorry to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing. To start, are you able to upload and test your published output in the SCORM Cloud? Also, you may want to check out these articles on troubleshooting LMS issues:

Hope that helps, and if not, please let us know and we'll dig a little deeper! :)

Hi Christie,

I don't think testing it on SCORM Cloud will make any difference in this case. When I publish it to our LMS, it works fine for me. The issue appears to be when clients access it off work computers. Mostly its been users on older versions of IE (IE9 and IE10). One user upgraded to IE11 and that solved her issue. But another user switched to Chrome and that's where we first saw the NPAPI plugin warning appear and even enabling the NPAPI plugin, against Chrome's recommendation, didn't solve the issue.

I'm wondering if it's something I changed in the file though. We recently upgraded to Articulate 2 and the only modules that have this issue are the ones I published thorugh Articulate 2. I also thought this might just be because I started using videos much more regularly, but just this morning I received an email with this issue in a course that has no videos, but the course is one that I did publish through Articulate 2.

Are there any settings that I could have missed that are causing security issues for some reason? Or a reason these would all of a sudden make Chrome think the module needs a NPAPI plugin?

Thanks!

Hi, Andrew -- So, there are a few things I would like you to try to rule out some common causes of errors and erratic behavior. Please make sure you are working locally as described here, and you may want to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline. And for your general reference, here is our System Requirement sheet

If you continue to have issues and would like our Support Staff to take a closer look, you are welcome to submit a case using this link
