Publishing a Course for the Web

Mar 01, 2019

I am trying to publish a course to be hosted on the web not our LMS but I see the instructions have an html.5 options in the Publish Successful window (see screenshot). When I publish using the instructions I don't have that option (see screenshot). I'm not sure what to do from here. Please let me know if you need more info from me. Thank you.

Hi there, Sandie. These are the options you'll see after publishing for web in Storyline 3:

The HTML5 option from Storyline 2 was to specifically launch the HTML5 output, which was a fallback option in Storyline 2. Since HTML5 is the default output, you're likely seeing it every time when you launch the course.

Once you've created your output for web, you'll need to upload the entire output folder to your web server. Is there someone who manages your web content?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. So, after I publish my course using the Web option and I get the Publish Successful pop up you attached above, what do I do from there to produce the output folder. I generally choose zip and upload that entire zip folder to the LMS but when publishing for the Web do I choose zip as well because I don't see an output folder in the zip file? Also, I have Storyline 3 but heard it's easier to share files with 360 is that true? Sorry this is all new to me.  Yes we have someone who manages our web content.

No apologies! We learn together in the community.

After you see the Publish Successful box, you will have a folder in File Explorer named YourCourseName - Storyline Output. By default, published output saves to your Documents > My Articulate Projects folder, but you can choose during publishing where the output is saved.

Generally, you won't zip that folder to upload to the web directly, but you can zip it to send it to your web manager. They will probably use the process I linked above to get it onto your site.

Storyline 360 integrates with Review 360. Review 360 allows you to share your output and collect feedback from SMEs, your boss, your clients, and whoever else has a stake in the project. Publishing for web and uploading the output will be the same process in Storyline 360, however.

Hi Sandie,

There isn't a way to convert that output folder directly to an MP4. You could look at using another screen recording tool and attempting to record the playback on your computer, although I've heard folks have trouble with recording the system audio.

If having a copy as an MP4 is crucial for you, you may want to look at upgrading to Articulate 360, as that's a feature within Storyline 360 to publish to video. Take a look at the trial of Articulate 360 here!
