publishing html5

Nov 13, 2012

Hello,

I'm trying to publish a video using storyline, but the text is cut off on the regular story.html  , can't figure it out?

https://cme-online.wustl.edu/psychiatry/story/story.html

the password is: lcampbell

on the html5 one the text is not cut off but the .mp4 video at the end will not play

https://cme-online.wustl.edu/psychiatry/story/story_html5.html

The server does support .mp4 videos. I'm playing the same video here using camtasia

https://cme-online.wustl.edu/psychiatry/iphone/ipsychiatry.html

the password is: lcampbell

I'm using storyline to password protect it, which sort of works. Only when entering the wrong password it takes you to the first slide and you can hit next until reaching the video even though I have the next button unchecked on the password slide?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

For the first link you provided (the regular HTML version) I can certainly see where the text is cut off.

Did you have a previous version of Storyline installed and then update the software? If so, this is a known issue. We will be releasing a fix for this in the next update for the software. Until then, there is a work around for this that you may want to try. To see more information on this, check out this knowledge base article

For the second link you provided (the HTML5 version) I was able to watch the video and the text seems to display properly. Are you still unable to view the video on your end? What happens when you try to view it?

I installed storyline from the website yesterday, so it should be the newest.

That's strange that you can see the video. I'm getting "Video format or MIME type is not supported"

which is confusing because the web server does support .mp4 videos. Unless there's something else I'm missing. that's in Firefox 16.0

in IE9, the navigation bar flash's and then its just a black screen.

in Chrome V23, I can see the video play.

Any thoughts about IE and Firefox?

Hi Tim!

Chrome would be why, then. I'm currently using Chrome as well. It looks like it may be an issue with HTML5 and IE/Firefox.

There's a knowledge base article that lists the requirements for Storyline. If you scroll down to the "Viewing Content" section, you'll see that the browsers supported for HTML5 are Google Chrome 14 (or later), Safari 5.1 (or later) and Mobile Safari (on iOS 5.0 or later).

A workaround may be to publish for both Flash and HTML5, and if someone is using IE9 the Flash version should load rather than the HTML5 version.

Here are some other resources:

Comparing Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output.

Test your browser's HTML5 support. (IE will usually score much lower, meaning there's a lot of functionality it doesn't support)

Hi Christine,

1. I am trying to publish a project in html5. All the features work in IE, Opera, FF, and Safari but they do NOT work in Chrome. The flash version works in Chrome, however we would like to stay with the html5 5Can you help me?

We accessed a demo online that has similar features that is working in CHROME: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107951319/THE%20HUMAN%20BODY%20-%20QUIZ%20-%20Storyline%20output/story_html5.html

Is there in error in my output?

Hi Serkan!

If you are having difficulty related to the Chrome 44 issue that I mentioned above, this has been resolved.

When you use Google Chrome 44 to view Articulate Storyline HTML5 output, you may find that slide content is missing. This issue was fixed in Update 6. See this article for details.

In addition, the Articulate Updater for Chrome automatically scans and updates your published courses so HTML5 output will work in Google Chrome 44 and later. See this article for the download link and instructions.
