Publishing problems - links and grey boxes

Dec 16, 2013

Today I tested my project to a group of people who did not have articulate storyline on their machines... and I ended up with the following problems:

one computer still has not managed to load the show... it just sits there with a whirling processing sign.

On slides where I had links to external pages on the website, none of them would work, you could click on them and nothing would happen.

On slides where I had images, sometimes it would display the full image, sometimes it would display part of the image, and another part, it would be greyed out, or sometimes the entire image would just be greyed out.

Any ideas?

Hi Janel,

When sharing with the other group, were you following the methods here to share published Storyline content?  Viewing the published content locally could have caused the issues experienced with loading the slides or the external links, as if you're viewing it on a local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

In regards to your images, if part of them is missing or cut off, I'd suggest checking that your DPI is set to 96 although the piece regarding the grey boxes through them seems odd. I'd check into the following other elements too which could cause odd Storyline behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).

  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.
