Publishing Storyline Project to MP4 - Damsel in distress requires urgent rescuing
Aug 25, 2019
Hello Heroes
I have created a screencast explainer video in Storyline and have edited to add slide layers with further descriptions as the learner progresses through the video. Each layer is set to appear at a certain point on the timeline, with each layer having a further trigger to hide the layer at a set point on the timeline. When I review the project it displays and hides the slide layers accordingly, but when the project is published to MP4 only the first slide layer appears and hides according to the set triggers. The video then gets stuck on the second slide layer and does not progress through the remaining layers as per the remaining triggers.
I have attached both the Storyline file and MP4 output for your perusal.
Your urgent advice is much appreciated.
Warm regards, N

Hi Nicole,
Can you please re-post the two files as they don't appear to have come through.
Thanks
Sure thing. Please find attached.
Thanks Nicole,
I will have a look and see if I can provide some assistance. :)
Hi Nicole,
Although I don't know enough about how Storyline publishes projects to video to be certain that this is the problem, what appears to be the issue is that the timeline on the layer that is causing your video to hang up is only 5 seconds long and yet you are asking it to hide the layer after 23.5 seconds.
This does not affect your project when previewed, but does appear to have an affect on a published video version.
If you drag the timelines of each layer out to the point at which you want to hide the layer, the video version should work properly when published. With the timelines set to the time you want to hide the layers, you can also use the trigger state "when timeline ends" as an alternative to specifying the time in the trigger:
Hope this helps. :)
Hello Ned
That sounds very plausible and makes total sense. I shall have a look at the timeline today and revert back if I am still unable to resolve the matter.
Thank you kindly for your assistance....E-Learning Heroes is such a great support tool. Much appreciated, thank you.
Warm regards
Nicole
