Publishing to HTML5 Produces no index.html! Help!

Feb 23, 2013

When I choose to publish to a folder on my Desktop (or anywhere) and select the options to publish to HTML5, Use Articulate Mobile and Allow for offline viewing everything gets published BUT the .html or .htm files.  Why??  I was able to just a couple of days ago.

It runs through the animation of publishing all the slides but never gives me a "completed" dialog box.  It just returns to the publish dialog box where I can either publish again or cancel.

Please help!

Hi Jim,

Sorry for the delay and the trouble. I'm glad you were able to get this to work, finally. If it happens again, try importing the slides from that course into a new one and see if the HTML files are generated, or try publishing to a completely different directory.

If you run into this again and those suggestions don't fix the issue, let us know. We may want to take a look at what's going on.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately it's happening again - sort of.  I need to publish standard LMS Flash output which works fine.  I also need to publish HTML5 LMS output (both using SCORM 1.2) but the HTML5 LMS output is incomplete.  Normally when content is finished publishing you receive the dialog box asking if you want to view the published content, open directory, etc.  Well I never receive the "publish complete" message/dialog box.  It goes through the normal animation process as if it's publishing then just returns to the publish dialog box.  Checking the output directory for the HTML5 output the LMS directory is empty.

I tried your suggestion with no luck.

Any other ideas?

Hi Jim,

Oh no, sorry to hear this is causing trouble again! First, try to make sure you're publishing to a local folder, on your local hard drive. I'm pretty sure you may be doing this already, but it not, it's worth a try. If you have already done this, try a different location on the hard drive.

If this continues, please try following the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:

Unexpected behavior in Storyline

If you still don't see the correct files when publishing for HTML5, we may need to take a closer look at this. Can you please submit the .STORY file with this issue in a support case? You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Articulate Support - Submit a Support Case

Please be sure to include a description of your issue. Please also include the URL for this thread in the form. Also, please share the case number with me. You're welcome to do so here, or in a private message. This way I can follow the progress of the case and update this thread.

Thanks, Jim!

Good morning Jim,

I apologize for the delay, I was out of the office yesterday. I was able to find your case (#00323534). I see that Miker has taken ownership of the case and he sent a message out to you yesterday afternoon. He sent quite a few suggestions, so I just want to make sure you've received his message.

If you haven't seen the email from Miker, please be sure to check your spam folders or filters. You may also want to add support@articulate.com to your safe senders list. If you're still unable to find the message, just let me know and I'll try to send it out again.

If you have seen the message and the issue is resolved, please let me know and I will update the case. If you've received the message and the issue still exists, please respond to Miker's email, so he can continue working with you on this.

Thanks, Jim.

I too am experiencing the same problem and have come to the conclusion that something in my Storyline file is corrupt. When I publish a new Storyline file (just a few blank screens) the publish (with HTML5 checked) works with out problem and I receive the project complete box.

Is my only option to rebuild my Storyline project from scratch?

Hi Elizabeth and welcome to Heroes!

Before rebuilding your project, you could try importing it into a new Storyline project which can sometimes resolve corruption issues. You'll also want to check that you're adhering to this guidelines to prevent corruption:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Hi Libby,

Here are the different ways to publish Storyline, and as Wendy mentioned if you're not hosting on an LMS you'll want to look at publishing for web. Then you can either continue using the story.html file as your main link, or modify it to the index.html as Wendy was able to do.

Hope that helps and good luck with the rest of your course!
