Publishing to Word

Jul 13, 2012

Hi,

I'm trying to publish to word. I think the problem is that word then asks me to activate the macros (Security). But when I do, Storyline says "The folder xx is read-only, being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource".

Perhaps I need to allow Storyline within Word...

Can anyone help?

Hi there! Thanks for chiming in to this thread. For those that have recently joined the conversation, we're seeing a problem in Storyline and Studio 360 where publishing to Word is not working correctly. Rest assured our team is on it, and we'll let you know as soon as a fix is released.

Lara, you mentioned you're having trouble publishing in general. Can you tell me more about how you're publishing the course?

Hi Rex,

I certainly understand - and we're working on a hot fix/patch update now.

In the meantime, I know a few folks shared that using Articulate Review actually met their needs better than publish to Word did as it allows for SMEs and other stakeholders to place comments on the course and experience all the interactive elements. Here's a tutorial on how to use Review in case that'll help you in the meantime.

Hi all,

I've got some great news!

The publish-to-Word feature in Storyline 360 and Studio 360 that temporarily stopped working has been fixed. Just install the latest software update. Here's how.

If Articulate 360 doesn't notify you right away about the new update, open your Articulate 360 desktop app, click the drop-down arrow next to your profile picture in the upper right corner, then choose "Check for Updates."

Thanks for your patience while our team worked on this!

Hi Rex,

Thanks for reaching out - I haven't heard a lot of reports of this since the update nor have I run into it myself, so I'd want to know a bit more info:

  • Can you find the published word doc in your documents?
  • What was the path/file name you were publishing to?
  • Do these buttons work in any of the other publishing methods?
  • Have you already uninstalled and reinstalled the update to make sure everything updated correctly?

Let me know the answers to the above and we'll troubleshoot from there!

Hi Ashley,

  • Can you find the published word doc in your documents?
    - No Word document found
  • What was the path/file name you were publishing to?
    - C:\Users\Owner\Documents\My Articulate Projects
  • Do these buttons work in any of the other publishing methods?
    - Yes, and it is working  for Web & LMS Publish
  • Have you already uninstalled and reinstalled the update to make sure everything updated correctly?
    - I just clicked the "Update" without uninstalling Articulate 360. Do I need to Uninstall when time there are updates available?

Hi Ashley,

Now, I tried Uninstalling Articulate 360 and Storyline 360 then Reinstalling the software, the problem still the same.

- No Word Document output
- If Published directly to Word, the Folder button is not working
- If Published to WEB first, then Word, the Folder button is working but no Word document output
- LMS, Web Published are working fine.

Hi Rex,

Thanks for that information and testing out those steps. I'm going to open a case on your behalf so that our Support Engineers can dig a bit deeper into what's happening as I haven't seen any other reports of this before or after the latest update.

Keep your eyes peeled for an email from Support@articulate.com
