Push Transition No Longer Matches Up

Apr 24, 2019

Push Transition APR19

Today I have noticed in all of my 360 projects which use the push transition that the slides no longer sync up during the animation.

In 360 full-screen preview the gap isn't clearly visible (sometimes it looks like the slides actually slightly overlap each other during the transition) but it is most noticeable when the project is opened in the browser, or when being viewed on a tablet or mobile device or in mobile preview as shown above.

Hi Chris and Adam,

Sorry you've run into this oddity! I ran a quick test myself, and my slides look to be correctly matched up in Preview and published to Review 360. Can you take a look?

If you're able to share a copy of your .story file, we're happy to test that too!

You can share it publicly here, or send it our team privately by sharing with our Support Team

I’ll delete it when I’m done troubleshooting.

Hi Ashley

I'll admit that in preview tablet view everything looks normal.

Try shrinking the project down to mobile phone preview size however. It seems the smaller the project window has been resized the more the transitions can become out of sync.

It is mainly affecting my projects that are embedded in iframes/SCORM Wrappers that have resized the project window down as opposed to viewing in full screen resolution.

Here is my project if it helps.

Hi Chris and Adam, and thanks for the details. This behavior is a regression from the last update, and we've got it documented as a bug.

I'll tag this discussion to be updated with any new information. If this issue is getting in the way of your design, you can install update 25 (February 26) for Storyline 360 from the desktop app. Here's how.

Holly Avery

Hi Crystal, is there any new information regarding this issue? I installed update 25, which helped immensely, but now white lines are appearing in between my slides. I found articles addressing the white line issue, but the solution is to either update or use a different transition (not ideal since my project needs to appear continuous). Is there anything else I can do?

Katie Riggio

Hi there, Holly!

I'm so sorry you're at this obstacle. It sounds like you're seeing another open issue we're investigating where slides show a white border between the slide and the player.

I'm sure this has been frustrating, as the goal is to produce high-quality work, and these oddities are keeping you from achieving that! I've shared your voice in both reports, so we can update you on any new developments.

In the meantime, we'd love to have a closer look at your setup to see what approaches we can offer. If you're able to share the .story file, please use this private upload link

Hi all,

Great news today - Storyline 360, build 3.31.19951.0 is available today!

It includes a fix for the issue where white lines or borders could appear around slides in published content.

Updating to the latest version is free and easy for Articulate 360 users following the steps outlined here.  If you run into any trouble, let us know here in the E-Learning Heroes Community or message our Support Team. We're here to help! 🌟

Thank you very much for the update Ashley.

I just wanted to share with you that a problem still persists with the push transition in particular:

It appears to get worse if a project has been scaled down from its original resolution, so the best advise I can give is to be aware of your project settings, and if you really need to use this transition then try to match your project size with (for example) the same size the content will be published on screen by your LMS.

Hi Ashley, I'm still having the problem with the push transition. Is there a way to roll back my Articulate 360 updates to Update 25 (February)? The oldest one I see within the Articulate app is 26 (April).

Even when I keep the project at its original resolution (per Chris' comment) the problem persists.

Greetings, Chris. Appreciate your latest insight!

Our team is still investigating the push transition bug, so I'm going to update our report on its continuing impact. We promise to share an update in this discussion as soon as we know more. Thank you for bearing with us!

Hello, Holly. Thanks for circling back, and I'm really sorry for the trouble this oddity is causing.

I'm going to open a case for you with our Support Engineers for next steps on this so you can continue working on this project. Keep an eye out for an email from the team!

Hello, Has there been any update on this bug? The push animation isn't working for me. Ive sort of "salved" the problem by going into PowerPoint and taking a video of the slide transition, but it would be ideal for me not to use a video in this project. Can I be notified when this is fixed so that I can update the storyline file when it's ready?

Katie Riggio

Hi, Rachel. Thanks for checking in, and I know what a pain this bug has been.

No news on a fix as of yet, but we'll keep this discussion in the know on any new information. Since you commented, you're now subscribed and will get a notification immediately when any updates are shared here.

If there's anything else I can answer, I'll be here!

Hello !

I've just encountered the same issue with "Push" transitions in my storyline 3.9 published project and it just ruins the user experience :-(

I created it with Storyline 3.6 and never had any problem.

Now, when viewing it on my laptop screen, there's a slight black stripe that appears between each "transitioned" slide... and a huge blatant one  with a sliding effect when viewed on my mobile !

I'm so sad i updated. I hope someone will sort it out !

Franck BRISSET

Hi Ren :-)

Some clarifications that might help : actually, the issue I encountered is exactly the one Chris Hodgson described in his different posts.

I thought everything was fine with Firefox & Edge but corrupted with Chrome & Opera (each time in full screen)... But, actually, the "push" transition happens to be somesort of a "stretching/shrinking" effect with a gap between each slide when you resize the window, whatever the browser is !

And, unfortunately, it behaves exactly the same way in mobile viewer (with a black background) :-(

I managed to retrieve an SL 3.6 published project and the "push" transition works seamlessly !

Thanks !
