Question about Markers

Nov 18, 2016

I would greatly appreciate some help with adding a picture to a marker. I inserted a standard marker that I want to turn into an icon. On the Bicycle layer (attached), I tried inserting a textbox, adding a picture, and putting it over the marker, but I can't control where it appears on the screen (I'd like it above the upper right side of the photo). When I tried moving it, the label disappeared completely. Also, is there any easy way to slightly enlarge the marker? I'm going to include the same marker for each of the 8 layers (with different information in the label area). Is there a way just to create the marker with icon just once, and then copy/paste it? One more thing - the pulse effect looks weird with the icon. Better to eliminate it?? I've attached the file.

You almost had it. Copy the image and then paste it in the normal state for the marker. Make sure you turn the pulse off and have the image position set to 0, 0.

I did this in your file so that you can take a look.

When you do this, the marker will be the size of the image you are using. You could use the actual photo as a marker if you wanted to.

Nancy, thanks so much for the time you spent making the change and explaining it. Again, hugely appreciated. But I'm afraid I'm still not getting it. I tried setting the image position to 0,0 by going to format/size/position but it just moves the whole image to a different part of the screen. Also, I'd like to have the image/marker stand out more but wasn't able to format it without moving it, and now I can't get the label back. The SL marker is behind the picture  but from what you're saying, I don't need it. I don't understand how to get the label attached to the image. The image I imported is in the Normal state and I put it in a textbox over the marker.  I tried to make the changes on the layer called 'Bridge' (attached).

Hi Lucy, I looked at your file and you did not paste the image into the marker state as I had suggested so that is why is was not working. I created a little peek video to step you through the process and have attached a revised version of the file.
