Question on Resume Option

Apr 17, 2020

Hello,

I'm creating a course on Storyline 3 where there's a Prompt to resume on restart. However, once the course is finished (quiz completed at 100%), on the next restart I would like to force the user to start at the beginning without the prompt. Is that possible ?

Thank you.

Hello there, Chi. I'm happy to help!

Is there a way to disable On restart: Prompt to Resume once learners complete the course?

Although there isn't a way to stop learners from seeing this prompt once they finish the content, most LMSs consider a course to be in review mode after meeting the tracking requirement.

Tell me more about your goal. With a little more detail, I'll see what tailored approaches we can take!

Hi. Thank you for your answer.

In fact, with the Prompt to resume option, I see that when the reporting of the course is set to Completed/Incompleted, if the user pass the quiz and quit then on restart they would jump directly to the starting scene without a Prompt to resume. That is what I want.

But the problem is, if I set the reporting to Complete/Incompleted, i can't really track the user's score of the final quiz…

On the other hand with the Passed/Incompleted option, the prompt would always appear on restart, and if the user want to stay they'll be right back at the result slide (Which is bad because my client do not want to put a restart course button at the end. The course also doesn't have a menu button.)

Is there any way to force the "Jump to starting page on next restart if the course is completed"?

I fail to see what could automatically trigger it. With Passed/Incompleted tracking the course is marked as both passed and completed, so why is the restarting behavior different from Completed/Incompleted ?

Hello Chi,

Thanks for clarifying your question. I built a simple course and published it with the two tracking options you recommended.

  1. Completed/Incomplete and was presented with the Resume Option as expected.
  2. Passed/Incomplete and was presented with the Resume Option as expected.

Are you seeing the same behavior if you click on the links that I shared above or is the issue only happening in your LMS?

I'll defer to the community on design ideas to force the system to bypass this question if the course is completed. Forcing a clean restart when the status is completed may be a setting within your LMS.

Hello. Sorry for the late feedback. And thank you for your help. I guess it is really a setting in the LMS that force a clean restart when the status is completed. Finally after trying various settings, the one that works well for me is Completed/Failed that trigger the behavior that I want, while the LMS still retain the learner's highest score.
