question slide advances to the next slide even though I want it to branch elsewhere

Jan 29, 2019

I have a situation where I would like to use graded questions at the end of a slide set for grading and knowledge confirmation/reinforcement during the training instead of a long quiz at the end.  At the end of the graded questions the last question slide is set up to be submitted which also triggers to change of a hidden button on the slide to "normal" so it can be used to advance to the central branch category slide which is not sequential in number.  When I hit the submit button in preview mode the question slide advances automatically to the next sequencial slide number instead. Is there a way that is best to branch non sequential graded questions while also maintaining the functionality of the graded questions ? I will want to sum up, grade and award a certificate at the end of the course. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Philip!

Without seeing your file, I'd first recommend checking your triggers. Do your questions slides have Correct and Incorrect feedback layers?

If so, those feedback layers should have a trigger to jump to a particular slide. You can edit that trigger to jump to any slide you like.

If you still need help, I'd love to take a closer look at your file! You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

I deleted the feedback layers and was just going to use the questions as part of the graded results of the training.  I added a button and trigger branching to the slide I wanted to go to however when the "submit" button was clicked the slide automatically went to the next numbered slide and the user would not get a chance to use the newly created button. Make sense ?

Hey Philip!

Yup, that makes sense! When you delete the feedback layers, the slide will automatically jump to the next numbered slide when the user clicks the Submit button.

To get around that, you have two options:

  1. Add correct/incorrect feedback layers to the question slides, and trigger the "Continue" button to jump to any slide you like.

    -OR-
  2. Remove the Submit button from the question slides, and add Prev/Next buttons. This way, all quiz answers will be submitted at once when the learner reaches the result slide. You can read more on that method in this guide
