Hi Roxanne. I would make 2 shapes that are basically the same, but the one in front is only half of the back image, then, put your character in between the two images and use a motion path to make them sink into the quick sand. You can time the motion path to go as slow or as fast as you need. Although there are some time limitations but I don't think this would be a problem for you. This is not the most elegant solution, but also wouldn't need any programming. Down and dirty.
