Quiz in a layers OR Controlling button states on A DIFFERENT slide

Jul 27, 2018

Hi Folks;

I've seen a few similar threads but none seem to address my issue. Maybe I'm missing an obvious solution.

I'm using Storyline 3.

I have slide with 9 buttons, linking to 9 videos.

After the user plays the video - they click to answer a Knowledge Check.  If they get the Knowledge Check CORRECT - then I change the state of THAT 'video launch button' to "Completed".  When ALL 9 video buttons are "Completed", then we send a "Complete" status to the LMS.

I can't place a Quiz on a layer, so each must be its own slide.  But how to I change the state of a button on the homepage, if the trigger (getting the Knowledge Check correct) is on a different page?

My first thought was to put everything on layers in ONE SLIDE.
Launch buttons on the base layer.
Video one on a layer.
Quiz one on a layer.
When quiz one is correct - change the state of that launch button on the base layer to "complete".  But I can't put a quiz on a layer, and I can't control the base layer on the video launch slide from a different slide, (the quiz slide).

I think I heard a bone in my head crack trying to figure this out.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hello Kory and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

You're so close! No bone-cracking needing.

I'd set up a variable for each one. So maybe:

  1. Set up a variable for each video (True/False with default of False)
  2. Adjust variable to True when the correct answer feedback is given
  3. Adjust state of button to 'Completed' when the Timeline starts AND Specific Variable is True

Hope that helps :)
