Quiz is always returning the same answer

May 30, 2018

I have a quiz that I wrote on learning styles.  There are supposed to be 11 possible results: I've taken it several times to test it out and every time I show up with the same result (the auditory layer).  Can someone help me figure out how I have the logic wrong in this?  I attached the file.

Hi there, Becker Logistics.

I had a look at your file, and I added a text box with variable references on the last question slide to tally up each of my variable values.  I tried to choose all Visual answers, but I noticed that both my Visual and Auditory variable values had approximately the same value.  Somehow, the Auditory variable was being adjusted with almost every question I'd answered.

Here are some changes that I would try.  I'd make them myself, but I'm not an expert in the criteria of each learning style.  ☺️

  • First, I would set each slide's Shuffle option to None in Form View.  That way, you can be sure that the radio button your learner selects is being used to adjust the correct variable.
  • Then, I would change your triggers to adjust the variables.  Place those triggers on the Submit button with a condition that the right radio button is in the selected state.  Only one can be selected at the time you click submit.  Why does this matter?  As it stands, if I change my mind about which scenario I'd prefer, there's no logic built in to subtract  the value from the incorrect variable when I change my mind.

...Also, I can't put together why the Auditory variable was being adjusted so many times, so sometimes rebuilding an element resolves mysterious issues.

You'll create 4 new triggers on the submit button, one for each choice.  Make sure those triggers come before the trigger to Submit the interaction!  Trigger order matters, too.

Give that a shot, and let me know if the logic works better.  A great way to test is to include a text box on each slide with variable references so that you can be sure the proper variables are aggregating!
