Quiz Question Retry
Nov 14, 2014
I've set up some assessments with 5-10 questions, we would like our users to go through the assessment 1 question at a time, having 3 attempts per questions before it directs them back to the course content (in this case a video).
How do I set it up so that the questions has 3 attempts before it boots them back to the content, but have it so that when bumped back to the content, the quiz is reset so that the user can now answer the question they had previously answered incorrectly 3 times...
Thanks!

Hi Patrick
have created a very simple .story file for you to have a look at see if this is what you are after. They can attempt each question 3 times with immediate feedback after each attempt. There is a 'review content' button on the result slide with 2 triggers : 1 takes them back to the content and the 2nd trigger resets the results. This is in SL1
Hello Patrick!
Hopefully Wendys' solution is what you are looking for! let us know if you need anything further.
Thanks Wendy, I really appreciate your help! This unfortunately is not quite what I'm hoping for. I'm more so hoping that the user has 3 attempts at answering the question. On their 3rd incorrect attempt, the course bumps them back to the video. From there, they can watch the video and then re-do the quiz, the questions they have already answered correctly, will remain answered, however the question they were stuck on would no reset to a allow a new, 3 attempts. The problems I'm having now is that I've solved this problem if they only answer 1 question incorrectly (by setting the question to "reset when revisited", however if the user answers question 1 correct, 2 incorrectly, gets bumped back to the video, and then answers correctly the 2nd time around, however answers question 3 incorrectly and gets bumped back to the video, they now have re-answer questions 2 and 3. (It would be nice to lock the correct answer in once they get the correct answer). Make sense?
Hi Patrick
yes it makes sense, is there a result slide with all these questions or they are just making their way through content and answering questions? Just trying to get the sequence right in my head. Not sure how you would lock the correct answer but I know this has been discussed many times, that only the 'incorrect' questions be presented on a 'retry quiz' - not sure if it has been solved though.
Wendy,
The way I have it set up right now (and perhaps it's not the best way) is
that there's a video, and then 5-10 questions. Feedback after each question
and I am NOT using a results page. My thoughts being that I want the user to
walk away choosing the right answer, no matter how many times it takes them.
My experience with playing with the results page is that for my situation it
will always show 100% (because I have it set so that they must answer each
single questions correctly before moving on, not 3 attempts, fail, and then
move on to next question and then have to re-do the entire quiz at the end).
Maybe that's the roadblock? I want each questions to be answered correctly
before moving on to the next.
Thank again for your time!!

Hello Patrick,
Not sure if this would work with having a video, but here is a thread that discussed using a lightbox slide as an option.
Hi Emily...this is great - hope it works for Patrick, but would work for something I am doing...thanks for sharing!!
Glad to hear!
Hopefully it will work out for both of you!
Set it to Reset to Initial State when revisiting (In the settings cog). That should clear it for you.
I have reset to initial, however if the user answers question 1 incorrectly,
gets bumped back to content, comes back, gets answer 1 correctly this time
around, moves on to question 2, answers that incorrectly 3 times, gets
bumped back to content, when they go back to quiz, they'll have to answer
question 1 again, as well as 2. this will happen every time they get bumped
back to the course content. Am a making any sense? Haha

Ah well, you could open a lightbox to the content instead of actually jumping back to the slide. Or you can make variables that say if a slide was already correct or incorrect and have the jumping set on that, but that gets very complicated. I had to do it once and it was a real pain.
Oh wait, you could have a variable for each slide, lets say, IncorrectSlide1, IncorrectSlide2. Initial value is false. If they get it incorrect, that variable changes to true, plus they get returned to the content. Then you have a condition on the Next button that it jumps back to that particular quiz question if IncorrectSlide2 is true.
