Quiz Reset Help!
Jan 31, 2017
Good Morning! I have been fighting with Quiz resetting for a couple of days! In general, I have 5-6 standard questions in a row, with a results page at the end and I want to clear my results so you can re-take the quiz. I have added a 'Reset Results' trigger (activated by a 'Click Outside' trigger so you can leave the slide any number of ways and still reset the screen!) right below my 'Submit Results' trigger...which are the top 2 triggers. So, in essence first submit results...then clear them to retry the questions!
This works great in the Storyline development testing environment but when I publish it to view in Mozilla or IE, I answer my questions, then get my results and leave to retry the screen BUT it doesn't reset the screen AND it adds Storyline 'Next' and Previous' buttons (I have custom navigation in place already - don't need the extra buttons!) Every slide property in this is set to 'Reset to Initial State' and my 'Reset Results' should reinforce this...plus, I have zero Slide Navigation Controls' or 'Player Features' enabled anywhere. What gives!?
I just want to reset my results (can you guys hear me quietly banging my head on my stand-up desk!?) Why is it so hard to reset results and where do these extra buttons come from??
Thanks!

Hi Matt
can you share your .story file or even just the quiz slides and result slide. Might be easier for someone to help if they can work with your setup.
From what you've described the default Prev/Next buttons will appear if the 'REVIEW QUIZ' option is selected not the 'RETRY QUIZ' option as that is how the user would move through the slides to view the answers. There are a couple of ways of hiding those default buttons.
Attached is one of the 8 or so sections/scenes that all behave the same. They work fine in the Articulate Preview mode...you can see the results score reset before the screen moves ahead and no buttons but once out in a browser it's a different story! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is there any chance you guys can remove that file from this thread once you have pulled it down?? Greatly appreciated...Matt
Hi Matt
by you guys do you mean Articulate - you've uploaded to a public forum so if you don't want it here I would delete the post now and submit a case direct to Articulate
No worries, it's fine. I will take it down another time. Getting some help is much more important! Thanks!
Hi Matt
downloading now to take a look - will this module be uploaded to an LMS?
No it is a stand alone product. No LMS is involved.
Hi Matt
I published and uploaded to my webserver and have viewed in the following browsers:
Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0
Chrome 55.0.2883.8
IE 11.576.14393.0
No issue that I can see - unless I misunderstand what you mean.
I select the Quiz, answer the questions, see the % result, click the Menu or > buttons and the % changes to 0% and I don't see any default SL player buttons
Happy to do a quick video of what I see if you want me to
No need. That is how it is supposed to work. I'm testing on IE 11.0.9600.18537 and Firefox 51.0.1. I guess that might be part of the issue?? Hopefully my users will have the updated browsers...??
Are you testing using the story.html or html5 file?
Here are the supported browsers for viewing - might help you
Soooo, odd that you mention that! The HTML file is good but the HTML5 is the one that will not reset. I'm not sure what to make of that!
>> So check that, the extra buttons still appear when I return to the quiz after going through it once.
Ok I only checked the html files but if you look at the viewing content browser information above HTML5 is only supported in latest Chrome version for SL2
Update: it's not working Chrome and the default buttons are displaying...I'd submit a case with Articulate.
Ok, so I'm thinking my takeaway from all this is that - depending on the story file and the browser you select, my product will work as designed! I just have to do a better job of steering users to the correct file! Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!
I'd still get it checked with Articulate as according to the specs HTML5 should work correctly in Chrome...good luck with steering users - that's a job in itself. Good luck with your project.
Hi there, Matthew. I didn't get a chance to have a look at your file before you removed it. If you'd like some help from us, we're here! You can hook up with our support team using this form, and you'll have the ability to upload your file there, too.
Crystal, you guys are more than welcome to take a look, I'll re-post it here. At this point I'm so confused between browsers and the html or html5 files that I don't really know what to do. I opened a case with Articulate and they are looking in to it (candidly, I don't know who's who at this point in terms of whether the eLearning Heroes staff works with them or not!)
Really the main problem is that I cannot reset the my short quizzes without Storyline adding extra Next/Previous buttons that basically lock you out of my quiz questions and gum up the functionality - even though when I test my triggers etc., in the SL Preview environment everything works as directed.
Thank you for any help you can offer and thanks also to Wendy for he help!
No worries, Matthew! We work closely with our support engineers, so I'll look at your file and your case, and we'll follow along to see what's going on. I'll be back on tomorrow, and if I find something glaring in your file that I can explain, I'll update this discussion! You're in good hands. ;)
Great! Thank you!
Hi Matt
just look beside the profile name to identify who's who in the zoo :-)
Articulate Staff will have the Staff tag
You will have the Author tag
Everyone else is a forum user just wanting to help you out
Good luck with your project!
Hi, Matt -
This is such an old thread but I'm dealing with the exact same issue (Next/prev) buttons appearing when the user tries to retake the quiz. It works fine in preview mode (resets as it should), but when it's published, it no longer functions properly. Did you ever figure this issue out?
Thanks!
Nancy
Hi Nancy!
Yes, this thread is a bit dated but I'm happy to step in and help! It looks like we released a fix for this bug in Update 9 and we are now on Update 38 (Build 3.38.21779.0) for Storyline 360.
Let's start by making sure you have an updated copy of Storyline 360! In your Articulate 360 Desktop App, you can click the drop down near Storyline 360. Here's where you can install the most updated version. Here's a quick look:
After updating, can you open the project in Storyline 360 and see if you're noticing the same issue with the navigation buttons?
If so, I'd like to take a look at the file to see what would be causing this snag! You can either attach the file to this discussion or upload it to me privately!
