Quiz Results Variable Name Confusion

Apr 01, 2013

Including a slide from another course, you don't check everything in the course everywhere.  Today, I noticed that the Quiz Results slide variable names are duplicated and changed the way that a copy would do if there were existing variables.

Snapshot followsStrange thing is the results slide which refers to the last four new variable names seems to report the correct values... usually.  I just tested it on my LMS.  Values looked great.  Sometimes when reviewing the course outside the LMS, the values appear to be undefined, displaying only the variable name.

How do I fix this?

Playing with this, I saved the quiz only to test.story.  Checking the variable list, the redundant quiz variables are not present:

The variables in the above dialog box can't be deleted... the "X" icon is greyed out as shown.

So let's be careful.  Save, exit Storyline, open Storyline, Open this file.  Add a results slide.  This is what I get:

I am not sure if this is a problem, or not.  It seems to be an issue to me.  Extra variable names is never a good thing.

I remember seeing a community member comment on this a while back. And I believe that case was similar to yours, if I'm understanding correctly: there were two sets of "results" variables, but no need for two. And the extra set couldn't be deleted.

I don't think there was a solution, but I'm hoping I was wrong. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I agree regarding "extra variables (and I might add unnecessary ones" not being a good thing."
