Quiz scoring with more than 1 Attempt

May 13, 2016

I have a quiz set to allow 2 attempts on certain questions. When reviewing the quiz, I purposely answer the question incorrectly on the first attempt and correctly on the 2nd (last) attempt. However, when reviewing the Results slide, it shows that question as Incorrect.

When allowing more than one attempt on a question, will the Results ALWAYS show as Incorrect if not answered correctly on the first attempt? I would've thought if we are setting more than one attempt allowed, and if answered correctly inside the attempt allotment, it should still show as Correct.

Is there another setting I need to make or adjust a Trigger to do this?

Thanks!

Hi Kimberley

Hard to say without seeing your file.

I created a sample with 3 MC questions. The first one has two attempts, the second one attempt, the third has two attempts.

I can get Q1 and 3 incorrect on first attempt and correct on second attempt and achieve 100%

Perhaps you can upload your quiz slides, might be easier for someone to help if they can see your setup.

Hi Kimberley,

I'd agree with Wendy's thought, that we'll want to take a look at your .story file. What you're describing is not the expected behavior of the results slide or the questions when adding more than one attempt to a question. You mentioned that you're seeing it as "incorrect" on the results slide, so I'm curious if you're just seeing that based on the score or if you've included reference to the particular questions answer - are you using a variable to include the reference of any answer? Perhaps that element is not being reset based on how you're answering?

Without seeing the file, we're just guessing - so if you're able to share an update here that would be helpful!

Thanks all,

After further review, it appears this issue is due to the variable added per our recent discussions from the following post:

https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/drag-and-drop-reset-option

The slides I added the "Reset" variable to show as CORRECT on the actual Results slide but show INCORRECT when Reviewing the quiz. I am resending the file with the same quiz slide that I sent for the previous discussion but this time I also added a Results slide with the Review option so you can see the scoring and Review information.

Also, please NOTE with this variable addition, the Results Review shows INCORRECT even when answered correctly on the FIRST attempt.

Is there any way to Reset the drag and drop options on a slide without having to work through all of these variables? It would be so nice if there was a built-in Reset option for these activities where the user could just click a button to Reset the options.

Thanks!

Hi Kimberly,

Thanks for connecting it to that other thread and sharing your file - sorry I didn't draw the connection as we see a lot of posts and users here in the forums.

If you're using the "reset" option for your drag and drop and have the slide set to "reset to initial state" to allow that to work - unfortunately when you go through a review you'll see it marked as incorrect as the state is set back to unanswered and it will adjust the score on your second visit to the results slide assuming the user didn't answer it. With this type of set up you have to choose one or another.

I know that other users have mentioned the need for a "reattempt" at a drag and drop to reset all the answers and our current set up is by design so that the users can see how they answered and choose to drag off only those items that they wish to change. If you'd like to see a different behavior you're welcome to share your thoughts in the form of a feature request here.
