Random questions in Question Bank - trying to reset bank

Aug 26, 2016

Hello all, apologies if there is an easy answer I am just not finding. I want to create a crystal ball interaction, where someone clicks on the ball and randomized text box pops up.

I've read that unless I use javascript (which I don't want if possible) I need to create a set of slides in a question bank and set them to generate randomly - no problem.  However, I want to be able to get people to  click more than once on the crystal ball to get different responses if they want to.

As it is, I do get my random response (or question bank slide) on the crystal ball, but that question slide is the same for the duration of the course. The randomized questions don't reset. Is there a way to get the question bank to reset? Or is there a  better way to do the whole interaction?  This is one subsection of a full course, so I can't have the course restart.

Hi Lori,  I am think you would need to use the Resit Quiz trigger but I am not sure that I understand the structure of your course / the crystal ball interaction.  Could you please explain a bit further.  Am I correct in thinkin:

- within larger course, at some point the crystal ball scenario occurs;

- where a random question appears with random answer; and

- that currently users can reclick to be able to get alternative random answer;

- but that you would prefer that if they reclick they can get a new random question and random answer?

Does that sound correct?  If you could provide the story file I would be happy to to have a look

Hi Christine, thanks!  I can find a reset results trigger for the quiz, but it doesn't seem to work for the purpose I want.  I am not actually trying to ask questions, just get randomized "fortunes" and as far as I've been able to tell, there is no randomize trigger/ variable.  Attached is my fairly rough interaction - you can see that you can get one randomized fortune, but if you go back and retry, it's the same one.  (Oh, and some of the results are a bit ...well, the full course is related to STDs, and I was just randomly adding fortunes which will be edited,  so sorry if anything is disturbing!)

Actually, I figured out a workaround. In case anyone is interested, I duplicated the slides that drew on the question bank, and added a variable called Fortune and assigned it a value. Anytime someone clicked the crystal ball and made it to the question bank,  the variable was changed by one.  Anytime someone clicked the crystal ball after the first time, they went to a different question bank slide depending on what number the variable was. I only gave them five tries then "broke" the crystal ball.
