Randomizing Assessment Questions on Retry

Apr 05, 2013

Currently, I have an assessment with 20 questions in a bank, 10 of the questions are selected at random perattempt. On the resuts slide for failure, when selecting retry the results are reset anddirected back to the questionbank. The SAMEquestions are always selected, eventhough they are set up to be randomly selected.

What I would like to happen is for the questions to be DIFFERENT when selecting retry per attempt. Is there a way to make this capable?

Hi B K!

If you have the question draw set to random and a number specified, it should pull those questions randomly when retrying the quiz.

For example, if I created a question bank with 8 questions and selected to show 3 of those questions randomly, each time the learner retries the quiz the question order will be different. Now, there's no way toguaranteethat the previous questions won't show up again in retry, because it pullsrandomly.

Since you're using half of the bank, it's pretty likely that you're going to see a repeat of questions. If you were to use a smaller amount of questions to pull, or from a larger bank, you'd have a greater chance of seeing different questions pulled on a retry.

I hope this makes sense Let me know if you have any questions.

Christine,

I understand that the same question can be pulled at random. However, on multiple publishes and retrys the same questions are always pulled "randomly". The only way to ensure different questions are pulled is to refresh the course. Everything is set up correctly inside the question banks and with the triggers...

Let me put something together.

Hi B K,

Ah, I see. I apologize for misunderstanding.

If you'd like, you're welcome to share the original course with me, I'd be happy to take a look. If you want to keep the content of the course private, and don't want to spend the extra timebuildinga new course to share, you're welcome to send it over to us in a support case.

thanks!

Hi Kira,

I don't see where B K shared his file with Christine or with our Support team, so I don't have any information to offer for his specific issue. If you'd like to share your .story file with us here we're happy to take a look. You'll also want to check that if you've set up the questions to randomize, that you also choose "Randomly" within the Include in Shuffle column:
