(Re)sizing drag'n'drop boxes to make text fit

Feb 07, 2013

So, is there any way to cope with this, exept using freeform? Can't the question and the answer be sized individually?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Sigurd!

I do not believe it is currently possible to re-size the drop object text in the graded Drag and Drop quiz in Storyline. You should be able to customize this in a free form version, though. Is there a reason you'd like to avoid using a free form Drag and Drop quiz? I understand it may be a matter of preference, but you'll have more flexibility in free form and you could even mimic the design of the default quiz.

In the mean time, if you haven't already, you may want to consider sending a request to our development team for the ability to change the font size or object sizes in the Drag and Drop quiz.

I'm sure there are other community members that have worked with this type of quiz and have used other methods for Drag and Drop quizzes that contain longer answers. In the meantime, maybe someone can chime in and give some additional suggestions.

Thanks for your reply, Christine. I can use Freeform, but as far as I know, I can only drag/drop an object on top of another object, not side by side, like in the first post. Am I Right? This can be solved like shown under, but it's not quite the same... Is it possible to adjust pivot/reference points for the drag/drop targets?

Have a nice weekend!

Hi Sigurd!

First - I have to say, I really like the look of that example. Personally, I think it's pretty appealing!  Good job.

Correct, you'd be dragging and dropping - it wouldn't snap next to another by default. However, nothing says you can't make the target a spot next to the match. If you made the target an area or shape and the answer a shape that would fit into the response, you could create more of the original look in the default Drag and Drop.

It's pretty similar to what you're using already, though. I'm guessing you may have set this up the same way.

I've uploaded the example here and I'm attaching it as well. It's a pretty quick (not quite as appealing as yours!) example so you can see what I mean. Note: the targets only have text for example purposes, if you name the object, you can just select it when editing the quiz. You can even move the objects closer to each other, so it looks like they snap.

I'm thinking you could also place the targets under the matches, so users could drag them around, instead of initiating the answers form the bottom. Not sure if that would work for you, though

I hope you have a great weekend, too!

Thanks again I know I can get pretty close using a transparent box next to the visual target. The only difference is that the answers can't be shuffled on top of the "answer boxes", they must be stacked underneath, like in the last example. Not a big problem as long as you got the space, though. Thanks for helping. I recently merged from Studio to Storyline - it's a HUGE improvement!
