Recommended Slide Size

Feb 28, 2022

Storyline has defaulted the slide size to a 4:3 ratio. What is the recommended Slide Size for best user experience? From mobile to biggest iPad or Tablet. A lot of devices these days have larger screens with HD or 4K resolutions. I'm wondering, if I leave it to the defaulted size will the pixels become distorted when viewed on a high definition resolution.

Hi, Lon.

Thank you for reaching out!

Since the Modern Player is responsive, your slide content automatically scales to fill all the available space in web browsers, giving learners the best experience whether they’re using a desktop computer, tablet, or smartphone.

I found the discussion below with some suggestions when choosing the slide size for your projects:

I hope this helps!

Hello,

I made a small test and set up two projects : one is 960x540, the other one is 1920x1080 (4 times bigger), with the same content.

When published, assets (pictures) are exactly the same (size and weight). I expected my lowres project to be upscaled and blurry but as it seems assets are kept at their original resolution, everything is actually scaled down whatever the size it's displayed at.

So, is it "safe" to keep the default 16/9 resolution (960x540) ?

Thanks.

Hi Phil (and thanks Pierre for the test you carried out).

I often think about the resolution of assets vs the bandwidth they use up, particularly when designing more hefty courses. Can I check my thinking on something?

If my slide size in SL360 is set up to be 960x540 and I place an image on one of those slides and that image is 540px high, would that image be stretched up to 1080px high for a user viewing the slide on a device with 1920x1080 resolution? And if the answer to that is yes, wouldn't the image deteriorate in quality as a result?
