First thing that comes to mind is that they have a custom mouse pointer. Check it out in the mouse settings in windows or mac (whatever they are using) and revert to default (or extra large as I prefer)
I call it a "burst effect". I use this all the time in class. Go to your Windows Control Panel and find the Mouse Icon. Go to Pointer options and check the Show location of pointer...
