I am doing screen recording that I save as step-by-step recording in try mode.
That normally works just fine if the recording contains mouse clicks.
However, I have text fields (password change screen - enter old/new pw) and when I select the try mode, the clicks are there, but the text fields get filled out on their own instead of prompting the learner to fill them in.
I tested this in my own Storyline files and when inserted as a "try mode" I was able to type in my own text and see the hint caption which offered a review of what I should type in. Are you able to double check that you've inserted it as try mode - you could try inserting it again into a new scene to double check. Also it's worth checking that you're working on your local drive, as working on a network or USB drive could cause unusual behavior.
Let me know how it works after checking into those two things.
Since it's a try mode set up, I'm assuming each of these text boxes are their own slides - so for the first two slides can you tell me a bit more about what happens? Does the information just appear there and the user has no option to enter anything? Any chance you could share this project here with us so that we can take a look at what's happening and how it's set up?
I'm having an issue with the Try me mode. When the user goes in to add numbers to the text box, a blank slide appears and input the value there. How do I get to where the numbers can be directly put in the text box?
Thanks so much for sharing your file with me! Those large white rectangles covering your text entry slides were actually the text entry boxes, just much too large! To fix it, I resized the box to fit the text entry field, adjusted the fill color from White to Transparent, and adjusted the font size to 6 (since the text entry was so small). Here's a Peek recording of those steps in action. I fixed both text entry slides in your file and re-attached it here. Have a look, and let me know if it works for you!
Great, i tried it on my own and it worked perfectly. Is there way a to jump to the next slide once i input the 1000 or the 1? I don't want the user to have to press submit in both places.......i want it automatic.
The user will have to submit the response either by clicking Submit or tapping the Enter key on their keyboard. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Jump to next slide when TextEntry8 changes if TextEntry8 is equal to 1000.
Keep in mind that the user will have to click outside the text box (also known as control loses focus) in order for Storyline to read the variable. There is not a way for the slide to automatically jump to the next slide the moment the user types 1000.

Hi Ashley
I am saving on the local drive - yes.
I get prompt to enter text only on the last box (there are three text boxes)
I will try now to record it in separate scenes and will let you know.
Thank you!
Best,
~Gerry

Hi Lisa!
Thanks for sharing the screenshot! Would you mind sharing the project file here so we can take a closer look?
Here is the file!!!
Hi Lisa!

This is no way around this?
Another option is to add this trigger:
Jump to next slide when TextEntry8 changes if TextEntry8 is equal to 1000.
Keep in mind that the user will have to click outside the text box (also known as control loses focus) in order for Storyline to read the variable. There is not a way for the slide to automatically jump to the next slide the moment the user types 1000.
