Not sure if this is new user error or a bug with the system but when I record my screen and then insert the step-by-step slides, I find that when playing them back, the recording on each slide appears initially, then the mouse and hints play followed by the recording at the end. The problem with this is that screen is cluttered with the actions before the mouse and on screen hints come on.
Am I doing something wrong or are others experiencing this issue.
Hi there, Jamie. Thanks for reaching out about this behavior. It sounds like during playback the screen recording is playing immediately rather than waiting for its position on the timeline. Are you using Storyline 360?
Our team is working on an issue with Storyline 360 where screen recording actions are not respecting the timeline in Preview (which renders in HTML5) and in the HTML5 published output. If your project matches those conditions, I'll add this discussion to our report with the QA team, and we'll be able to update this thread with any changes.
If you aren't working under those conditions, tell us a bit more about your setup. If you can share your file, that'd be great too! You can use the add attachment button in your reply.
This is exactly what is happening and I am using Storyline 360. It's almost as if the recording is doubled up playing both immediately and then again in it's correct position on the timeline.
Thanks Jamie for confirming that it's the same experience as Crystal described. We don't have a estimated timeline for a fix, but we'll share this discussion with our QA team so that they're aware more and more users are being impacted by this behavior so I appreciate you confirming that. Once we've got additional information we'll be sure to update you here!
Great news! Articulate 360 Update 4 was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here, including some general fixes that resolve the behavior you were experiencing here.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
Let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
I am also having an issue with recording my screen in Storyline 360. I set the recording area to the Story Size. However the program I am recording cannot be resized, so I expand the recording area with the aspect ratio locked. When I go to bring it into Storyline, the recording is always off. Sometimes it only shows half the screen I recorded. Other times it shows the red box that was recorded with a much larger "outside" area of the screen that was not in my original recording box. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
I am on a laptop with dual screens that are not the same size, would that have anything to do with it?
Have you tried recording with only the laptop screen (disconnecting from your dual screen)? I know that some users ran into difficulty with that in the past - so I'd start there. If you're still running into the issue - can you share a copy of the .story file and any other information about your computer (OS version, what you're recording, etc.)?

I think the error reported by Jamie still exists. I use the latest version of Storyline 360 and have the same problems with HTML5 output. When will this bug be fixed?
You're right--we are seeing a problem in Storyline 360 with screen recordings in the HTML5 output. I'd like to get a few more details about your file to narrow down whether you're seeing the bug we're seeing:
Thanks for confirming that, Franz. I'm sure this is causing headaches for you, and I apologize for that. Our team is working through this bug, and I'll keep you posted on any new developments. I appreciate you letting us know that this is affecting you!
Sorry you're hitting this bug too, Karen. The only workaround I can suggest as of now is to view the Flash output, since it only happens in the HTML5 output. Now that you're subscribed to this discussion, you'll automatically receive the latest information on new developments. We'll share as much as we can, as soon as we can!
A possible workaround is as follows: You can split the contents of the original slide into two slides. The first slide contains the text and the mouse pointer, the second slide contains the Animation.
Franz, I've tried that where I can but in some cases I really need it to be on the same slide. I will continue trying to work around the issue as I understand that this is a bug in Storyline.
Hey Sharon - It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
Any news on this bug? I've wasted a lot of hours trying to figure out why my screen recordings were jumbled until I found this thread. This feature is one of the main reasons we purchased Articulate 360 and I can't complete several work projects. Replay 360 isn't a good substitute for what I need to do. And Flash is not an acceptable output.

I can't find the screen recording function in Storyline 360. Can someone help me find it?
Sure thing Tony - if you aren't on the Start page of Storyline 360, it's now under the "insert new slide" option and you'll see it here.
Hi Tony! We moved it on you! :) If you go to your Slides tab, you'll see Screen Recording in there.
You can also still access it from your start up page in Storyline, or from the Home tab in Story view!

Hello, I am also having this issue and it is really frustrating. Any work arounds?
Outside of viewing the Flash output, there are no workarounds documented at this time Karen.
