Are you allowing the course to resume as described here? What variable are you looking to read again? If you're resuming where you left off, the value of variables should remain and if they're referenced on a particular slide you should still see the correct variable value. You may also want to look into the slide revisiting properties to ensure it's set to "resume saved state" instead of "reset to initial state" which would reset a slide the next time you visit it.
