If you see a white box with a red X when attempting to insert a character into your Storyline project, it means your computer's color depth is set too low. Please review the following article for more information:
I'm having the same issue with Storyline2. Never had it with S1. I verified, per the above, that my color depth is NOT set too low. The only way I get around this is rebooting my PC. Closing the project has no impact. After rebooting I was good for about 6 slides then it happened again. I'm guessing its somehow related to me copy/pasting content over from a MS Word table into the notes section. I don't have Admin rights for the PC, so I can't try the steps posted earlier. Any other suggestions for a fix welcome. Hard to make any progress in my course if I keep rebooting every 6 slides.
Our QA team is aware of an issue where inserting a table from MS word is causing the red X issue. They're investigating it, but in the meantime, you can insert the table in PowerPoint and then import it into Storyline. Or use any other methods in this KB article: Tables in Articulate Storyline.
I'll include this thread in the report filed with our team so that we can follow up with you once there is additional information.
The Red X is typically an element of corruption - so without seeing the file there isn't any way to say for certain. What I would recommend is importing each slide into a new file, and going slide by slide to see at what point the red X appears and then you know that you only have to update/edit that slide/layer
In the end I took Peter's advice and re-installed the software after cleaning out the registry. So far so good and I'll be careful with text from Word tables from now on.
Articulate Storyline 2 Update 5 is now available for download. It includes WCAG 2.0 support, several new accessibility features, better HTML5 performance, and bug fixes. Click here for details:
Storyline 360 has this issue. Inserting a table and trying to resize or update the text in it creates the red X. This issue seems to date back seven years. Has there been a solution to insert tables and resize rows and columns?
Sorry to hear you're coming across this error when inserting a table! Are you using the Insert table function, or are you copy/pasting from another software?
If you'd like some help, feel free to connect with our support engineers and get tailored support when inserting a table so you aren't running into that big red X!

Looks like a memory problem. I haven't seen this since the beta. Does it persist when you close and reopen?
Oooh! :(
Big Red Cross of Certain Beta Doom.
I would certainly submit this as a Bug, just so they can have a check.

Submitted. Feels like a great time to break for lunch.
"I had to leave, boss, I ran out of memory..."
I've also had this red envelope some days ago. The solution was to repair SL.

Hey Colin,
Can you give the steps here a shot and let us know if that sends your Red Envelope packing?
And thanks, Frederic. Welcome to Heroes

It would be nice for others who come here to know if the fix is :
Re-booting didn't fix it for me. I did delete all slides that I thought had imported text from Word tables and it appears to be working OK so far.
Thanks
Richard
