Refresh set text equal to typed value trigger in a slide?
Jul 03, 2014
Hello,
I've created a Fill in the Blank activity that responds to and scores users responses based on variables and specific text entries.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/mprep_media/hosted/public/gmat_interact/Storyline/story.html
The activity works just fine, except for one user-friendly issue. I can't seem to set a variable to have the Text Entry field clear after a student has submitted an answer and the field has been repopulated in a layer by way of a variable to reset the text entry field to say "Enter a word used to describe a property of an integer."
The first time a student clicks on the text: "Type a word here that is used to describe the property of an integer." in the Text Entry field, it automatically deletes this text and displays a blinking cursor. I know that this initial feature is controlled by the "Set *TextEntryVariable* equal to the typed value When the control loses focus" variable, but I can't find a way to reactivate this trigger a second time. I've even tried using this trigger: "Set *TextEntryVariable* equal to the typed value When the control loses focus on condition *TextEntryVariable* is equal to "Enter a word used to describe a property of an integer." but it does not work.
Any suggestions?
Best,
Derek

I've also struggled with this same issue, but haven't found a solution yet. Thanks for posting this question, hopefully we'll get some ideas...
Hi Derek,
I really like the look of this course/slide - and although it's not automatically removed when I click in the box, it is highlighted so it's easy to delete. I wonder if you could share the .story file here as well with us - just to give us an already set up example to play with and generate ideas around?
Hi Ashley,
Of course, I've attached the .story file. I know the automatic highlight makes it easy to delete the text, but I've received feedback from users confirming that if every entry requires additional step, users might grow tired of the activity.
Thanks for taking a look.
