remove motion path entrance animation after initial occurrence?

Jan 26, 2018

Hello

I have a tabbed layout, where each tab's contents are on their own layer.

User automatically enters this layout on the Overview tab and the entire layer contents are attached to a motion path so they slide in.

Once user goes to one of the other tabs, if they go back to the Overview tab, I do not want the contents to slide in again. I just want it to appear.

  1. I've tried adjusting the layer settings to "resume saved state" but that causes the layer to not appear at all from the initial base layer. (I do have a "hide this layer" action applied for when the layer closes)
  2. I've tried setting a variable to recognize once the layer has initially appeared and used a conditional statement to only activate that motion path once the the variable changes from False to True... but that's not working either. It always slides in on the path.
  3. I do NOT want to duplicate the layer just to avoid this motion path issue, as that will lead to possible errors with text editing down the line.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

Hi Karen!

I tried removing the T/F variables you had set and adjusted the Overview button's states. It seems to work correctly this way. I set the Overview button to change its state to "Visited" once the timeline ends. It will only follow the line motion path when the state is "Normal". Hopefully this helps!

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your response. I wasn't able to open your file (I'm using SL2). However, based on your description, I made the revisions you mentioned. The desired action of the tabs is now working. yay. Thanks.

New issue....  now, when I return to the base layer, if I click on the button that activates the initial "overview" layer, nothing happens.  It only displays the layer 1 time.  I feel like I'm properly closing the layer when  the exit animation ends so I'm not sure why it's "stuck"

Glad the tab revision worked! Sorry for the secondary problem!

Give this a try to get the layers to work properly. Reset the layers to "Reset to Initial State" when revisiting. The easiest way to do this for each layer is by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right corner on each selected layer. You'll more than likely have to do this for each individual layer.

If that doesn't work, you may need to use a combination of True/False variables and triggers.
