Renaming multiple text variables - how can I tell which is which?

Oct 09, 2012

I have a slide with 4 text variables. When I go in to rename them, they are currently TextEntry, TextEntry1, TextEntry2, TextEntry3.

Is there any way that I can know which variable on my slide is TextEntry vs. TextEntry3? I am doing multiple scenarios that each have 4 text entries, and when I duplicate the slide, it names them all TextEntry (1,2,3), and I can't tell which is which until I rename them and then reference them and preview the scene to try it out.

Any help?

Thanks!!

Julie

Your variables are being automatically named TextEntryx-3 because you're inserting text entry fields.  I generally will rename them as soon as they're entered for this very purpose.  In fact, I generally rename everything to make life easier (especially if you have to come back to a project).

If you click on a data field, you'll see a trigger on the right that says which variable it is writing to.

I was renaming when I created them, but when I duplicate the slide is when it was going back to TextEntry, but I didn't realize until you mentioned it that I could edit the name from the trigger on the right side - that's what I was looking for. (I had forgotten each was on its own layer, so II wasn't finding them anywhere all together.)

Thanks!!
