your post has both 'replay' and 'reply' - are you talking about a replay on a quiz question in SL or a reply to from an email when you subscribe in the forum?
I have tested in both SL1 and SL2. SL1 works as expected - SL2 doesn't. I have attached both .story files for you to see. Quiz is setup exactly same in both. Not sure if it is a bug or there is another way to make it replay. In SL2 I have added a button which the user would need to click to force the audio to replay.
Thank you very much Wendy for your response. I have figured out the issue. When I click Slide Properties, 'when revisiting' needs to have 'Reset to initial state' selected and I had 'Automatically decide'
Are you talking about Storyline 2? I was unable to open that one to have a look. But when I had a look at my setting in Storyline 1 I changed the setting and they are now all working.
I took a look at that SL2 file - and the replay button on the slide replays the audio and using the actual rewind button on the seekbar which I enabled and had the slide set to "reset to initial state" also worked. If I'm missing something could you let me know more information about what you'd like to see?
Hi everyone. What seems to happen to me onn question slides is if I hit the Replay button (next to the seek bar) before answering the question, the slide replays. But if I answer the question and get the feedback (the feedback layer is shown) then the Replay button replays the feedback layer. Once the question is answered, I can't replay the slide unless I move forward to the next slide, then return to the question slide so that the entire slide resets and replays.
So... it looks like the Replay button replays the main layer unless another layer is showing and then it replays the currently "active" layer, like a feedback layer.
Hi, Chris -- Thanks so much for your question! First, I wanted to note as the last activity on this thread was a year ago, if you would like to reach any individuals directly, you are welcome to use the 'Contact Me' link on their profile pages.
Also, would it be possible for you to share your file here so that we can take a better look at what you have described? Please use the ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left of the reply box and upload from there! :)
It's a quite large file full of proprietary info, but it should be easy enough for you to replicate.
Just set up a question slide.
To make it easy to troubleshoot, add a small audio file to the main layer and to the two feedback layers.
Play the slide and answer the question.
Then hit the Replay button next to the seek bar. The feedback layer will replay but the main layer will not.
Looks like it is just built-in SL behavior that the Replay button will replay the layer that was last opened. In this case it is the feedback layer. If no other layers are open, the Replay button replays the main layer. Really just wanted to confirm it - nothing can be done about it I don't think. Just means that once the learner has answered the question, they can't restart the question slide unless they move forward and then return to the slide (and Reset to Initial State is turned on for the slide).
Hi, Chris -- Many thanks for the update, and for outlining the exact steps you took! I will go ahead and run through a test file as soon as I get a chance and I'll be sure to let you know the outcome here shortly. Your patience is appreciated! :)
Hi, Chris -- Thanks again for your patience and I wanted to confirm that I encountered the same behavior you have described. To the best of my knowledge, there is not a way to address this, but if you would like additional confirmation/possible suggestions, you are always welcome to reach out to our Support staff using this form. :)
Sorry for the delay here - I posted it and then my internet dropped out! But Christie and I were discussing your set up and preferred method here - and since it's something set up by design, I wanted to touch base with you on what you want to set up. If the user is able to "replay" the entire slide on a question such as that, are you thinking that they'll be able to reanswer from that point as well? Have you looked at using the "attempts" within the question to adjust it and let the user retry the question? If you're not looking for them to retry but to just hear the audio again could you look at including a button on each layer specifically to replay the audio?
Perhaps sharing a bit more here about what you'd like to accomplish would allow for the community to weigh in with further ideas and explanations towards that goal.
Thanks so much for your time on this. The client is happy with leaving it as is, so it is somewhat of a moot issue now, but here is why it came up. Even though I preach against it, my instructional designers sometimes load up a lot of conceptual explanation (with voiceover and graphics) at the beginning of a question slide, and then show the question so the learner can answer. On this particular project, we had a slide like this slip through the storyboard review process and so was built into the lesson. During the review the client heard the explanation, answered the question, got it wrong, and wanted to go back and hear the explanation again. Since you can't replay the main layer, he couldn't rehear that explanation at the beginning of the slide.
The simple and obvious solution is to not have the lengthy explanation at the beginning of the question slide, which as I said is something we try to avoid but sneaks into our designs on occasion - we just have to be vigilant. Same goes with lengthy explanations in feedback.
Glad we could help Chris - and I could see that set up now with what you were trying to accomplish. Do they want to hear the explanation to reanswer the question though or just to understand where they went wrong? The first option, I'd look at using the "try again" and if need be letting the try again "jump to slide" that slide, and have it set to "reset to initial state" - so then it'll play again as if it's the first time. If you need to track attempts, it gets a little more complicated with variables (but totally doable).
If the second option, what about setting up additional guiding/review information on the feedback layer with the explanation? Perhaps a button near or next to "continue" that they could use to rehear it?
Again - not the set up using the replay button - but some other ideas to look into next time!
Hi Ashley. I just saw your response and wanted to say thanks for that. For some reason I never saw a notification that you had responded and so was unaware. Thanks again for your reply. :)
No worries Chris and you may want to check that your profile settings are set up to "auto subscribe" meaning that when you respond to a forum discussion you'll automatically start receiving emails with any other new replies. Those emails will come from heroes@articulate.com so you could also add that email address to a safe sender list or white list it within your email client or with your IT Team.

Hi Rebecca
your post has both 'replay' and 'reply' - are you talking about a replay on a quiz question in SL or a reply to from an email when you subscribe in the forum?
My apologies, It is replay button. If someone wants to hear the question again it won't replay.

Thanks again.
Hi Rebecca
glad you got it to work...the file I sent you had the slide properties 'Reset to Initial state' and it still doesn't work for me :-(
Are you talking about Storyline 2? I was unable to open that one to have a look. But when I had a look at my setting in Storyline 1 I changed the setting and they are now all working.
Ah yes - SL2 sorry...my test in SL1 worked correctly and same setup in SL2 didn't...thanks for the update.
Hi all,
I took a look at that SL2 file - and the replay button on the slide replays the audio and using the actual rewind button on the seekbar which I enabled and had the slide set to "reset to initial state" also worked. Hi Ashley
I tried it again in SL2 and it worked, maybe my coffee hadn't kicked in!
Thanks
It is a Monday after all too, so double whammy! :-)
It's actually my Tuesday morning 4AM - on a support call with Justin trying to getSL2 reinstalled...fingers crossed!
4 am...no fun. Hope it goes well with Justin!

Anyone else see this behavior?
