Replay doesn't work?

Jan 15, 2013

Wondering if anyone else has run into this. I'm using Storyline's recording function to take screencaps of screens, tossing that screencap in a layer and making the player visible. The video is set to play automatically, but I want people to be able to replay it. For the life of me though, hitting the play button again at the end just doesn't seem to do it. Hit it once - it becomes a pause button without replaying the video.Occasionally I'll get it to play with an aggressive double-click - but not all the time.

Here's a link to the published version:

I also attached the file.

Any help with this would be great. Or - direction on how to make my own replay :P Really don't want to have to do that.

Hi Jamie!

I think I may have found something that may be helpful for this. I see that you have the video on a new layer and I see how the option to replay it isn't automatic. What you could do is create a trigger that plays the media when the video is clicked on.

It would look like this:

You could also set this to double-click, but most learners are a little more comfortable with single-clicking a video to replay it.

I know this may not be exactly what you're looking for, but maybe it'll get you started

Thanks!

Huh. I tried that - but every time I tried that - I ended up with a duplicate of the video file overlaying the original. That was when I used a media file from another source.

I did figure out I could toss a transparent object over the body of the video  and set a trigger on that to replay. For whatever reason, the trigger seems to graciously "wait" for the video to be done playing to come into effect.

But a trigger over the play/pause button causes issues in that it destroys the pause option.

Ugh!

Do you mind giving just a little more detail for how you did what you described? Obviously I'm missing a step if I'm getting duplicates of the file...

Thanks!

Hi Jaime!

No problem! First, make sure you're inside the "Video Layer", itself. Make sure you don't have the video selected that's on the slide (click on the slide background, etc.) and click on "Create a new trigger".

Set the trigger up as follows:

  • Action: Play Media
  • Media: Screencast 1 - Desktop (Note: this will not be an option if this video was previously selected!)
  • When: User Clicks
  • Object: Screencast 1 - Desktop

Hopefully this makes sense :) I'm also attaching the modified file here, just in case you want to take a look at how it's working.

If you have any questions, let me know!
