Hello. I ran into an issue like this today and the workaround in Simon's response isn't working for me. For some reason, when I try to add the trigger to the Short Answer Survey slide, I am not allowed to choose the variable I need to track. The only option I'm given is the same TextEntry variable (see attached screenshot). The variable I need to select is called PostTest and is tracking a number (eg. a user clicks a hotspot and they receive 1 point).
Is this some situation where only a certain type of variable can be used? I have over ten variables in my project and the only one I am able to choose there is the TextEntry variable.

Here's one way that might work for you (Screenr here with some comments) - I've not tried it myself. Another similar article here.
Others have used JavaScript to send variables elsewhere but sometimes with mixed results.
THANK YOU!!
