Reporting Interactions, but not a final score, to LMS

Jul 23, 2019

As I have posted in another thread, I have some very complicated scoring to accomplish for some testing. I think I have settled on using a bunch of variables to get the numbers I need.

At this point, my main sticking point is that I need to transmit completion status, all detailed interactions and variables (using Survey questions), and I do not want to pass a “final” score to the LMS that will show to the learner.

I know that if I publish as SCORM 2004 (4th), I will get all detailed interactions, (the question and answer texts, and not just the choices). However, if I have a Results slide, it appears that a score is automatically transmitted to the LMS.

So, I think my questions in two-fold:

1)      If I publish as SCORM 2004, will Interactions & Results slides still be reported to the LMS, if I select Tracking by slides viewed? (ideal, since there would be completion, but no score for the learner to see.

2)      If I have to publish with Tracking set to a certain results slide, is there a way to override or prevent a final score from being reported to the LMS?

Hi Kathy,

You'll need to include a results slide, and track by that to send all the learners answers and the question text to your LMS. Have you tried using a survey results slide? That should allow you to track the questions but does not set a score to pass to your LMS?

Similarly, if you used a Quiz results slide you could always set the passing score to 0 and remove the on slide references to the score. That way learners wouldn't see anything on the slide itself, the course would be completed once they reached that slide, and within the LMS they may see a 0 - but that'd be true of everyone!

Thank you, Ashley. Unfortunately, any score reporting to the LMS is not wanted by the client. As far as I can tell, if I use any Quiz results slide, even if it is the the final tracked results slide, a score is still reported. This means I have to use variables for all calculations, and cannot use any of the automatic calculations as part of my scoring, Was just hoping to avoid additional work, and the problems that having so many variables can pose. Thanks again!

Thanks for the additional information, Kathy.

Do you have a graded result slide or a survey result slide in your course?

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Leslie,

I miss-typed in one of the earlier replies. I meant to say, that as far as I can tell, if I use a Quiz results slide, even if it is NOT the final tracked result slide, a score is still reported. So, in other words, I have 5 difference sections, each using quiz questions, with five quiz results slides. And then I use Survey questions to record results from other variables. And then I use a Survey Results slide that selects for all Survey and Quiz questions, a score is reported, even if it is a Survey Results slide that is tracked. I will see if I can find one of my test samples and post it.
