Request for timeline and state triggers help

Oct 30, 2018

Hello,

I'm am being challenged by what seems to be a very simple request from SL360. I have timeline cue and four objects that all need to be clicked on before a disabled NEXT button to appear. My objects on the slide:

  1. I have a T/F variable on the timeline cue (default F)
  2. I have the NEXT button hidden when timeline begins
  3. I have 4 change of states to visited when users click on each object.
  4. I added a trigger on the slide level: When the timeline reaches cue #1 and the state of all the objects are visited then set NEXT to normal.

This works if click everything before cue #1, but the NEXT doesn't appear when I click on an object after the timeline. I can tweak it to do the reverse (after cue #1), but I can't have both.

What am I missing?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken!  Happy to help.

It sounds like you're doing a good job so far, so let's see where we can make a tweak.  I like to keep things as simple as possible.  First, is it a requirement that your learner stay on the slide until the cue?  Or are you just using the cue as a way to trigger the Next button?

If it's just being used for the trigger, we could do it another way.  What happens when learners click each object?  Are they navigating away from the slide?  Opening a layer?  If you're staying on the same slide, you may have success with just using this trigger:  Change state of next button to normal when the state of *all* of x, y, z are Visited.  If you plan on having users revisit the slide, consider adding a condition to the trigger to change the Next button to Hidden/Disabled so that it doesn't hide again when learners come back.

We recommend using a variable when the setup is a bit more complicated, since variables reliably track user activity across slides.  Share your .story file here (or even just this slide!) for more in depth help!

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for responding. Your description, " If you're staying on the same
slide, you may have success with just using this trigger: Change state of
next button to normal when the state of *all* of x, y, z are Visited. " is
accurate, but it also has an audio cue. The above works well *after* the
audio cue is triggered "audio=true when timeline reaches cue#1", but it
won't work before: x,y,z, are visited and audio =true. I quickly click on
x,y, and z before the audio reaches cue #1 and the NEXT won't appear, but I
click on all 3 *after *and it does.

But all conditions are being met so I don't understand why it doesn't work.

I'll create a similar .story file, the other is confidential.

thanks again very much for your time and assistance.
