Requesting 3rd layer for question slides in order to customize "Invalid Answer"

Jan 16, 2018

Greetings,

would it be possible to add a 3rd layer for question slides, for "Invalid Answer"? Currently, for SL3, each question slide has the following layers:

  1. Correct answer
  2. Incorrect answer
  3. Try Again answer
  4. Thank You answer

All of these can be edited using the Feedback Master option. If you go there, you'll see the following available slides:

  1. Correct Feedback
  2. Incorrect Feedback
  3. Try Again Feedback
  4. Review Feedback
  5. Thank You Feedback

There is no way to edit the Invalid Feedback/Answer using layers and/or masters. You need to edit everything using the player's color and text functions or customize your slides so a new layer appears if the user does not answer the question, using a variable and/or by checking the "selected" states for radio buttons or check boxes.

Would it be possible to add a 3rd layer for Invalid Answer and make it customizable as easily as the Correct/Incorrect answers please? I feel like this is a glaring omittion for the software, as there is a disparity between designs and you need extra programming to make one of your own.

Thanks in advance

P.S. Please find attached what I would like to see.

Hi JC!

That's excellent feedback--I can definitely see how it would be helpful to have the option to edit the Invalid Answer layer just as easily as the other quizzing layers. I'll pass that along to my team for you!

In the meantime, check out this tutorial for creating a custom "Invalid Answer" message. The tutorial shows Storyline 1, but you can use the same method in any version of Storyline. I hope that's helpful!
