Require users to view all slide layers before advancing

Jan 03, 2020

Hi all,

I was trying to make an interactive slide that allowed users to chose whichever section they wanted to go through first, but required them to view all the sections before advancing.

This hasn't proved effective, though, because then the users are unable to go back and view the slide and layers a second time to review. Also a few users have reported that the slide freezes and they are unable to select anything (hence the file name).

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to improve this set up.

I just built this from a storyline template, and I've removed most of the content and made each layer 5 seconds so it's quick to review.

Help please! Thanks

Hi Cheryl!

I appreciate you sharing the file! It's always helpful to see exactly what you've created so far!

It looks like the rectangles changed to the "Selected" state rather than the disabled state. I removed the selected state, so there are only 3 states for each rectangle. Normal, Hover, and Disabled.

I also added the next button in the Slide Properties and added two triggers. One for disabling the next button when the timeline starts, and one for making the next button set to normal when all the rectangles are disabled.

Here's the .story file! Let me know if you have any questions.

There is a sample on this thread:  https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/free-sample-restricted-and-free-random-navigation-using-variables-and-triggers that may help you. Use the mixed navigation, as it does everything you describe.

It was created using different slides instead of layers, but you can copy everything from the target slides and make layers of them. You just need to change the jump triggers to hide and show layers.
