Reset drag and drop interaction

I created a variable and add value trigger to my try again layer on a free form drag and drop interaction so learners have 2 chances to answer the question. I also added move along motion path triggers (same start and end point) to the drag items on the try again layer so the drag items reset when the learner clicks try again. This works exactly how I want it to.

I added a reset button and move along motion path triggers to the base layer so learners can clear their choices during the interaction. It works perfectly on the first attempt! But on the second attempt, unselected drag items move to drop targets when the selected drag item moves over them. I tried using jump to slide (this slide) triggers and the same thing happens on the second attempt.

What am I missing or doing wrong?
