'Reset to initial state' - manually

Jan 05, 2016

I need to be able to reset a screen manually to 'initial state' (by a button). I know  you can do this using 'Slide properties' but in this case that will not work as a user  will need to jump back and forth between slides (I do not want them to sit thru an audio/gfx build every time they return to a slide - only when they choose to via a replay button).

I've searched with no luck. I thought about using a replay button to start the timeline again.. seems that's not possible either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark!

You mentioned a custom button and using a jump to slide and making it the same slide would re-start your slide if you had the slide properties set to re-set to initial state.

We have some documentation in reference to our built-in rewind button that may explain this a bit better.

In some cases, you may notice that the Rewind button at the far right end of the seekbar doesn't actually start the slide over from the beginning.

The behavior of the Rewind button is determined by the “When revisiting” property for each slide. There are three options to choose from:

  • Automatically decide: This is the default option, and it means Articulate Storyline will decide automatically whether to rewind the slide or not. Here's the logic: If the slide contains just simple objects and audio but no interactivity, Storyline will rewind the slide to the beginning of the slide’s timeline. However, if the slide contains any interactive elements, such as buttons or any other object that includes a visited/selected state, Storyline won't rewind the slide.
  • Resume saved state: This option will always prevent the slide from rewinding.
  • Reset to initial state: This option will always force the slide to rewind.

To change the “When revisiting” property for slides in your course, see this tutorial.

If you'd prefer to simply remove the Rewind button, you can do that, too. Bear in mind that removing the Rewind button will also remove the Seekbar.

You are welcome to share your thoughts with our product development team here.

Thanks Leslie for the reply. Unfortunately that is not what i need.  I already use the slide properties you have mentioned and work fine in a lot of cases. (The seek bar is not used either) .

With our current courses I need to be able to force a replay of screen at the users control, even though the slide property is set to auto decide or resume saved sate (This is because when returning/revisiting this screen  i do not want them to have to listen to the audio/gfx build again, only at at their control.

I've linked to an example that may explain it better.. there are a couple of "yellow" notes.

regards, m
