Resetting Pck Many interactions

Feb 11, 2014

Hi, I'm building my first "Pick Many" interaction, and I seem to have hit a problem.

I have four shapes on my slide, and the user should pick, say, numbers 1 and 3. If they do that straight away, everything works fine.

However, if they first click one of the others, then change their mind and unclick it, even if they then choose the correct ones I still get the "Try Again" feedback (I have it set for 2 attempts). It seems as though clicking again to unselect doesn't really unselect - although the state of the shape changes as expected.

 Any suggestions gratefully received!

Hi Drew,

I'm afraid I don't see the same behavior when I build a new free form Pick Many question.

For example, I have four objects on my question slide. Two of them are correct and two are incorrect. If I select two correct responses and then an incorrect response, but change my mind and click the incorrect again, it deselects the response.

If I have all three selected again, click "Submit", then click the incorrect object again, it deselects the object as well. Submitting again results in a correct answer response.

Have a look at the attached version.

Is it possible you're using a different type of question? Or have you added any triggers to the objects?

Hi Ashley, thanks.

I think I've found the problem. My four shapes were four groups, each was a picture grouped with a text box on top of it. I'd used the groups in the interaction, but now I've ungrouped them and the pictures themselves are now in the interaction instead - and it works as expected!

I suppose I'd thought that, if ungrouped, the text box on top would prevent the user's click from going through to the picture below, and the click wouldn't register. It does seem to work though, and the text box doesn't seem to get in the way.

Am I now doing it in the way that you'd recommend?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Drew,

Thanks for the update and I'm glad you were able to get it working. You may want to also look into using the built in buttons or captions as the text boxes are included in the shape already, but your method also works. You'll want to ensure that you keep the text box with no fill and no outline as not to block the shape behind it.

Not a new problem, just adding to the commentary.

I'm having a similar problem with grouped objects.  My Pick Many has an oval shape with text, which is currently grouped with a small picture.  The Pick Many only allows me to choose the group as a correct answer, and not any of the shapes in the group (in this case the oval is the largest item.  It appears to work until I test, then I get the same behavior Drew got - if you uncheck one of the shapes, your score doesn't reflect the fact that you've unchecked it.

It works OK when I ungroup them, and then I'm allowed to choose just the oval.  So the workaround is fine.  A good enhancement would be to not allow groups to be chosen as correct answers, or to make the question score properly when you do choose them.

Thanks Articulate for having such a great site so I can find answers to my problems!
