Resources for Hosting & Rendering SL2 HTML Content Online?
Sep 01, 2016
I just received this heart-wrenching email from Dropbox.
We’re writing to let you know that we’ll be discontinuing the ability to render HTML content in-browser via shared links or Public Folder. If you're using Dropbox shared links to host HTML files for a website, the content will no longer display in-browser.
Please note that this change will take effect for your account on October 3, 2016, and only impacts how shared files are displayed on the web. Your files will remain safe in Dropbox.
I'm super disappointed and dreading the work it's going to take to move my online content and re-link my ePortfolio URLs. Thus, I reach out to you my amazing e-heroes, what suggestions do you have for posting & hosting your content online (preferably for free)? Google failed us, no Dropbox too?!

I'm in a similar boat. I used this feature to host the published files so that my clients can review them. It was a simple and easy solution. I can host them on my website, but this was the easiest way to accomplish this.
Hi Mat,
We saw this too - and updated an article here. Also, our team is hearing some inconsistent dates from as early as this October through next summer! So with that in mind, likely better to err on the side of caution and get something new set up sooner rather than later.
My account will be affected Sept 1, 2017 according to the email.
@Ashley - Could you PM me? I have a couple questions you might be able to answer.
My note says it will go into effect September 1, 2017. But what I don't understand is the "in browser" It says it just affects how files are displayed on the web. I don't know what that means.
Either way, I'm shaking my fist in the general direction of Dropbox!
I think we all are Mat! At least Google Drive gave a bit more notice than Dropbox!
Does anyone have any suggestions on where these can now be hosted?
Hey there, Ari! We have updated our article on publishing and sharing your content to reflect these changes. It offers TempShare as a temporary previewing option, perfect for review by any stakeholders in your development to get a temporary look at your course. Also it discusses Amazon S3 as a hosting option, and even links a tutorial on how to set that up by our resident rockstar, Tom Kuhlmann.
I hope these help you get started for now!
