Resources in course reverting to old files

Nov 28, 2014

Hi - I have created some courses that have PDF resources in links and in the Resources Tab.  These documents were created some time ago, and I have since applied a new style guide to them, so the new PDFs are quite different.

I have updated my links and the resource links to the new style PDFs, but when I publish my course, the output files and the PDFs opening in the links are the old PDF documents.

I do not know why this is happening, as the old versions of the files, no longer exist on my computer.

When I create my course, I save it in my C drive, however the PDF files are on a server environment.

I hope someone can help me with this.

Thank you

Hi Fiona,

It may also be a cached issue in that your browser, LMS, etc. is still holding the old files and if the links are the same or the file names are the same pointing to those instead. To test that out, you could try uploading a brand new copy of the course ( not overwriting the previous version) and see if that version works. You could try a site like SCORM Cloud or one of the web servers in this article.

Thanks Ashley

I seem to recall viewing a Screenr tutorial (I think by Jennifer Brookes) on Storyline some time back that said if you create a document - word or PDF  and attach it via a trigger in Storyline, you did not need to worry about updating the link if the document content changed.

The tutorial said that if you need to update the content, you can simply do this to the file where it is stored on your computer.  If the file name and the path remain unchanged, storyline will continue to refer to the latest version of the file.  This is definitely not happening for me.

I can no longer find that screenr.  Are you able to locate it and send me the link

Thanks

Thanks.

Hi Fiona,

Are you changing the file within the published output or prior to publishing changing the file within it's location on your hard drive? If the link, file name, etc. stay the same it should be updating correctly, but I can't think of which Screenr your referring to. I did a search and since Jeanette had *a lot* of screenrs it's hard to narrow down.

If you're looking to update the published content, you'll want to do so within the published output folder - not the original file location on your hard drive. Since modification of the published output is not something we can support, I am not sure of all the steps you'd want to go through to ensure that works for you but hopefully someone in the community will be able to assist.
