Restarting after program error in slide conversion

Aug 22, 2014

I created a rather large presentation by recording clicks. I then let it save which took almost an hour. I slected to build one slide per click (vs video on one slide) and then let the process run overnight checking on it off and on. It got to about 90 percent complete, but when I checked the next time the dialog window had disappeared. There were no slides added to the scene, and also no error message. For all intents and purposes, that work is lost and I don't even know why.

I want to save the couple hours of work that went into capturing the clicks. I noticed that there are temp files with all the slides represented as jpgs and some other metadata in the windows temp folder. Is there a way to restart the process of converting to slides from those temp files?

Hi Jason and welcome to Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear about your presentation and that it seems elements were lost. I wanted to offer a reminder that while working on Storyline, you'll want to ensure you follow along with these guidelines here:

If the original .story file that you had saved is still accessible, you can look within the "record screen" drop down to see if the screen recording is there and choose to add that again to your slides as described here.

Hi Jason,

I'm sorry to hear about your file - it sounds like the screen recording was lost completely then when Storyline crashed, but it was worth looking if it would be accessible within the drop down. Is Storyline crashing for you regularly or only when conducting a screen recording? It may be a good idea to conduct the repair detailed here.
