Once the user has visited each slide, the menu is unrestricted meaning they can visit slides they already saw. There is not an "unlocked" element - using locked navigation forces the user to only proceed forward and back through the set up you described.

In regards to the navigation, if you have chosen Restricted and the user is also able to "resume the course" they will be able to navigate back to any slides they've already seen. If you have chosen Locked navigation, and the user has completed the course and see all slides, they still can only navigate the menu in the order you've designed. They can't jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they go back to any previously viewed slides.
Thank you this is what I was trying to understand. Another quickie on this same topic. I've read previous post (but over a year old) that on the restrict on menu it also makes the individual slide "next button" not work until the end of the timeline. Is this still true?
This is the behavior of the Next button and "Restricted/Locked" navigation in Storyline 2. That was implemented as a new feature after a lot of feedback regarding locking down the menu but users still being able to quickly click through the slides using the next button.
Our course is set by modules and those unlock as you go. There is an assessment at the end. An issue we are running into is that once the user passes the assessment and exits the course, upon his/her return to the course all modules are locked gain. Can the menu be set up so that it is unlocked once the user revisits the course or how can we keep the modules already competed unlocked upon re-visiting the course?
Phil, "Once a course is marked as complete" - is that by LMS? Maybe our LMS does not handle the SCORM properly (we use Pathlore). The issue is once the user exits the course and returns to LMS then if the user wants to review the course they are brought back to the course but all modules are locked again. It is not an issue if the user stays in the course and wants to go back to the home/landing page and look at the content, all content is unlocked.
It really depends on what your criteria are for completion in the file. Once this course tells the Lys that it is passed/completed or failed (not incomplete) then the course will reopen in Review mode for that instance of the course, that is I suspect why it is all locked because review mode is either not being sent the resume data or is ignoring it because it is in review mode.
Also, we have another issue we are seeing and we don't know if it's LMS or Storyline. Once users complete an assessment and then exit the course, regardless is they fail or pass, once they come back to resume (if they did not pass) or review (if they pass) they are taken to a random slide within the assessment part of the course. One would think that if the user passes the assessment, exits the course to LMS, and then decides to review they would be directed to a first page?
It sounds like you're running into a couple of scenarios where you're not sure if the LMS or Storyline is the cause? When that happens, it's a good idea to look at testing in another environment such as SCORM Cloud. It's free and pretty easy to use, but if you find yourself stuck at all, our Support Team is always happy to take a look at your .story files and do some additional testing too. I'm using restricted menu setting and some of my screens that appear in the menu are used in lightbox only. Is there a way to change the lock icon to check mark when learner views a lightbox screen?
Great question! There isn't a way to customize the icon from a lock to a checkmark in the Menu. As a workaround, you could choose to remove the lightbox slide from the menu. To do this, just select the slide title and click the Delete heading button below the menu.
Scenes and slides you remove from the menu will still be part of your published course; they just won’t show in the menu.

Hi, Diane - Please see this page for more information on how Restricting and Locking your Course should perform.
Found that but my question is once completed and the course re-opened does the menu become "unrestricted or unlocked"?
Hi Lynda,
Once the user has visited each slide, the menu is unrestricted meaning they can visit slides they already saw. There is not an "unlocked" element - using locked navigation forces the user to only proceed forward and back through the set up you described.
Even after the course has been completed?

Once a course is marked as complete it opens in review mode which typically ignores the resume data
