Restricted navigation 1st viewing, free navigation on the second?
May 16, 2014
Hi all,
Apologies for the Subject title - couldn't work out how to best phrase it!
I have a story that won't be hosted in a LMS, it has 9 buttons which lead to different sections. On the first viewing, the buttons are locked so the learner has to view the sections in a certain order. Once a section is viewed, the variable is changed to true and the next section is unlocked. The problem is we also want it to be used as a reference tool, so the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time they view the eLearning the navigation isn't restricted.
I'm using variables to manage the restriction in the first instance. Is there anyway around this? The only thing I can think of is to use Javascript to check whether the story has been viewed before and set the variables as true on the timeline start event of the first slide but have no idea how to do this or if it's possible!
Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if it's certain 'No, this can't be done!'
David.

I have no idea if this will work....but have you tried adjusting the player settings to "always resume" or "prompt to resume" on restart? That way, if they have already passed that section on a prior viewing....as long as it resumes, it should still be allowed to pass that section without having to "unlock" it again.
Hi David,
Cristina's got you covered with a part of it - and I would suggest "always resume" so that the user can't reset it by accident. You'll also want to look at your slides revisiting behavior - and set it to "resume saved state" to keep the variables.
Hi Cristina & Ashley,
Thanks for getting back to me - I didn't think it'd be so easy!
I'lll give it a go and report back.

HI,
Any body please explain about how can i create 2 nd time free navigation, along reset to initial state of the slide. please help..
Hi Kvijay,
It's not something that you can accomplish using Storyline's built in settings - so I'll defer to the community here for their expertise!
