Can anyone recommend a sample, course, tutorial, anything that I can look at to help understand restricting navigation slide to slide AND with tabs in Storyline 2.
Instead of using a shape (your tabs) to trigger a layer change, I could
use a hot spot (positioned over a shape) to trigger a layer change...does
this make sense.
Here is the look of my nav:

The "shapes" of the nav tabs are several "pieces"--so I did not understand
how a user could actually "click" them (in order to go to another layer)
without using a hot spot. BUT what I can do is simply re-build them to look
like your example.
Thank you again for your time--I have learned so much from your
example--this is why I just love this software.

Hey Jackie - I could not see your image here (you must have responded via e-mail), but glad to hear that you were able to get this working. If you run into any difficulties or questions, feel free to pop back in. Good luck on your project.
Hello Jackie - Did you intend to attach your file here for me to take a look? I'm not seeing an attachment. Be sure to click 'View' vs 'Reply' in your e-mail so that you can reply directly in the forum thread and utilize the 'Add Attachment' option in the bottom left of the reply window.
Hello Jackie - Looks like you have triggers not firing.
On Tab 2, you have a trigger to adjust variable Tab2 to true when timeline ends if variable Deductible is true, but Deductible cannot be true until it's timeline ends and Tab2 is true - so those are never gonna happen it seems. Hope that helps :)
I took a look at the file you shared initially and made the modifications based on my understanding and it seems to work. Your updated file is attached.
I did adjust the 'timing' to when the timeline begins vs ends to be sure that the variable is adjusting.
OK, I will try to replicate over the weekend and not bother you again till Monday. Happy St. Pat's Day. Thank you for empowering me to try new stuff without fear--it's the only way to fly :)
First of all, the reason your file was not working is because you had the Next button set to change to Normal 'when the timeline starts' and the user was not going back to the base layer. So, you could have added a button or action to do so and that would have worked just fine.
Looking at your course, my assumption is that you did not want to actually do that. So, by changing when the variable on layer2 changed, we could have the Next button pop up once those markers were visited.
As a bonus, looks like you didn't set up the triggers for your pop up error and I did that as well.
Your updated file is attached. Hope that makes sense and assists you :)
I can't enable next button on a slide with two layers with markers-- you must click each marker on one layer, go to next layer and click all the markers and THEN next button would pop up.
I have a feeling that this is another poor design on my part--but can I do it?
I think this is what I just responded to? Looks like you deleted some comments above? Be sure to check out my previous response above with your updated file ;)

Hello Jackie - I put together a short demo that may be what you are looking for.
Leslie,
PERFECT! Thank you SO SO much for taking the time to do this for me! What a smart way to think about the process--really creative.
You are a true hero--you saved me.
Jackie
Leslie,
Please, one more question--I could do the same type of thing using a hot spot instead of a shape to trigger the tab changes, correct?
Thanks again,
jt
Hello Jackie - I'm not sure I'm following your question. User clicks on a hotspot and it does what?

Inside of Tab 2 there is a button. After the button timeline ends you are taken back to the base layer BUT the next tab does NOT show up.
Thank you, jt

Why can't I just change the state of rectangle 3 when the timeline starts If Tab2 is equal to True and Deductible is equal to true.
I don't understand why this won't work--can this ever work?
thanks,
jt
You could I'm sure, but Deductible is never going to be true if Tab2 is dependent on it and it's dependent on Tab2 - does that make sense?
That does make sense but I removed the dependency and told rectangle 3 to
be normal when both Tab2 and deductable were true and it still doesn't work.

YEAH YEAH YEAH it works!!!

Thank you Leslie--you are a wizard.
I want to be just like you but I fear that there are not enough years left. :) I will keep trying.

I think you are doing great Jackie :)
