Can anyone recommend a sample, course, tutorial, anything that I can look at to help understand restricting navigation slide to slide AND with tabs in Storyline 2.
So, the variable simply says that 'if any variable changes on layer 2' then change the state of the next button??--Seems so simple when you do it :)
How do I learn more about these topics (that we've been discussing)? I am pretty resourceful about finding things to read, tutorials, etc. but don't seem to come across anything this far into the programming end of Storyline. I just looked through every Storyline 2 book that I have and there is no mention of this variable. I would imagine that a 'programmer' may be able to figure these things out on their own, but, I'm no programmer.
I am willing to put in the time to learn so if you ever think of any doc, book, etc that I could study please let me know and thank you again.
Now that I am your biggest fan, and reading your prior posts, I came across a thread where you and a learner were discussing the inability to get the next button to go to 'next scene'--the "issue" was that the timeline was longer than the audio and when the timeline was trimmed, the next button worked.
So, what do you do if you have a bunch of text that has to be read and the audio is short?

I wanted to clarify that the trigger has a couple of requirements:
1. On Layer 2 - to adjust the UntitledLayer2 variable - all 4 markers must be visited
2. When that variable adjusts (UntitledLayer2), THEN the Next button changes to Normal
So, we are still making sure the user hits all of the items.
It sounds like you are on the right track as far as training goes and I truly believe that hands-on is the best way many times :)
A great learning opportunity would be to participate in our E-Learning Challenges for some more advanced skills as well as being able to see some of our super savvy users and what they create as well.
As far as your second question, it sounds like the user may have been having an issue and had items extending off of the timeline. If you have a link, I could take a peek. 'Out of context thinking' is not my specialty ;)
Of course the example you mentioned above is one where the user solved it herself and there was no file to take a peek at. I would venture to assume she actually had her navigation set to restricted, so the user wanted to proceed, but could not. When the navigation is set to restricted, you cannot move forward until the timeline is complete. So, if the timeline is set too long - that would certainly cause issue.
If you run into an issue with your course, feel free to share.
I'm not seeing an issue with the tabs interaction that you have uploaded - it's working as per the variables and triggers you have set. The only thing as a user I didn't know to click on the picture to hide the layer and return to junk slide (until I read the triggers).
It might be easier if you upload the course where you are saying the issue is occurring so folks can take a look at what's happening.
the tabs appear to be working correctly - have only checked 2.2 so far but the issue is your selected state seems to have white text on white background and so looks as though it is disappearing
I can't get tab 1 to return to normal after it plays. Also, why is the thumbnail so little...all of the other scenes have thumbnail images that are much bigger.

Hey Jackie! Hope you are having a great Friday :)

Leslie,
The tabs on this slide work great until I place it in the rest of the course and preview it-- then tab 2, 3 and 4 show up before tab 1.
There has to be something that I've done to cause a weird interaction when it's with the rest of the course.
thank you, jt

Having a devil of a time still.
Just noticed that your file doesn't work either when published (fine when you preview it), Tab 2 does not pop up after tab 1 runs.
Thank you!
Hi Jackie
I've published your file and still can't see an issue with it.
Here is a video of going through the file - can you tell me what the issue is
Thank you helping me. I have posted the whole course file because the tabs on 2.2 and 3.1 are not working properly.
Hi Jackie
the tabs appear to be working correctly - have only checked 2.2 so far but the issue is your selected state seems to have white text on white background and so looks as though it is disappearing
ok, ok thank you. God Bless YOU!!!
Another set of eyes can work wonders sometimes Jackie :) Glad that Wendy was able to assist you here.
I can't get tab 1 to return to normal state after it has played.
Also, why is the thumbnail image so small?
Thanks,
jt

thanks for your continued support, jt
Hello Jackie - I did not see where you had a trigger to change this tab back to normal.
I added this:
It now seems to work as you mention.
Your updated file is attached.
Thank you Leslie :)
No problem Jackie - hope that helped you on your way :)
