restricting navigation to certain scenes

Nov 04, 2012

I'm sure there is any easy way to do this, but it is eluding me.  I have three versions of the material in my project.  I have set it up so that people using the Supervisor or Teacher versions must enter a code (numeric question slide) to enter their version.  I can't figure out, however, how to keep Students from accessing the material on the supervisor and teacher versions by clicking on the slide after the access code from the menu bar.  I know I can hide those slides on the students menu bar, but I wanted the supervisors and teachers to be able to go back and forth between versions.  I can't figure out how to lock slides in just one segment.  Sample of the project is attached.  Thanks in advance for your help.

PS--if you want to access sections, Supervisor code is 12345, Teacher Code is 67890

Hi Frances.

I think the way to do this is to have a "switch" using a Variable.

When the Teacher code is entered (for example), have a variable switch from e.g. False to True.

For every slide on e.g. the Teacher area, make the first Trigger check the Variable is True, and if not, route the slide back to the "Student" area.

Sorry I cannot spend more time on a prototype of this, but I think that is how you can make this work.

Alternatively, I would lose the side menu for all areas altogether, and just use a pictorial menu slide and custom buttons so anyone can return to "their" menu when they want to, but no other group can see it.

Hi, Frances

Riffing on Bruce's ideas and adding a bit of my own special sauce (to mix metaphors like a bass-playing chef)...

.. I came up with the file attached to try and get you what you want. I think it does the trick.

Let me know if it doesn't and I'll take another look.

All the best with it,

Hi All,

Bruce and Leslie: I looked at Bruce's suggestion and was ready to go with it. Then I saw that Leslie had beaten me to it. But I decided to give it a go anyway. My rendition is slightly different, but I THINK it works.

Rather then creating another variable, I inserted a trigger on the supervisor and teacher slides that instructs SL to go back to the Student Scene IF the SuperCode (or TeachCode) is equal to 0.

It seems to work: clicking in the Menu on any of the Supervisor or Teacher Slides uf the code wasn't entered returns you to the 1st slide of the Supervisor Scene. Clicking on the supervisor (or teacher) slides in the menu AFTER entering the code allows you to view any of the slides.

This is a "plain vanilla" file, since I rec'd an error message when trying to download Frances' story.

Couldn't have gotten here without other input, so thanks!
