result doesn't show (only variable)
Sep 19, 2018
First: I've inherited this course, I didn't build it. I had it translated and the translator translated the variables, so I had to translate it back. I did that in a different course and it seemed to be fine.
The problem I am having is that the result slide shows the variable not the actual score. I previewed the english version and it is fine. I'm pretty sure I've written the variable correctly (hopefully it's something easy and dumb like that though!)
Please help.
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I sees you have two "%" after the name of the variable.
Could that be the problem?
Pierre
Thanks for the quick reply. That doesn't seem to be the fix, however.
Hi John
can you share the .story file? Might be easier for someone to help if we can take a look.
My guess is that the Results variables have different names from what you used. Perhaps they're Results2.PassPercent? I'd check the variables in your course to see what they are.
@Simon...where would I find that? Thanks.
Hi John,
I guess problem is variables name as Simon mentioned.
You could check the variable at the right side as the image.
I usually use this code for final result, you could try on your course:
%ScorePercent%% (%Results.ScorePoints% points)
%Results.PassPercent%% (%Results.PassPoints% points)
I would duplicate the results slide normally fixes it.
Thanks all, found the variables and fixed them. Much appreciated. It just got translated when it shouldn't have and I didn't translate it back correctly.
So I thought I would follow up here, since everyone was very helpful...
I'm in a different course and I'm having the same problem. But when I go to the variables list I get:
results12.score.percent
results11.score.percent
results10.score.percent
etc on down to one. How do I know which one to use?
Thanks,
John
My "go to" trick is to add a text box which displays them all (one per line). Then preview the test and see which one gives you the right score.
Ha. This is where I went. So none of them did.
I got a lot of 0 and a couple where it showed the variable instead.
Still at a loss...although, the success slide was triggered, even when I got them all wrong... It's a mess.
Any other ideas?
Hi John
I would create a new project file and import all the slides in except the result slide. Look to see what variables are in the list, then insert a Result slide and make sure SL has auto created the set of 4 result variables
Seems to work. Thanks!
Hi to everybody,
I have similar issue
A file in English has been created into SL2 and shared with people in different countries.
My Chinese colleague opened the file with SL3, translated it, some variables disappeared from the variable list (and she did not try to change the name of the variables)
I check the original English file, still OK
So, does it mean that time to time SL delete some variables??
Thanks for your input
Olivier
Hi Olivier,
I've opened many SL2 files in SL360 and I've never come across a case where a variable disappeared.
In fact, there have been times when I've wanted to remove results variables (there were too many because of copying/pasting results slides), but I never could.
Is it possible that the variable is there, but you didn't see it? Quite often, the variables list isn't exactly in alphabetical order (I think it tends to group by type).
Simon
Hi Jacob,
Thanks for letting us know what happened, and we're here to help.
Did the variables disappear before translating the file, or after?
With your permission, we can take a look at your Storyline 2 project file and upgrade it to Storyline 3 on our side. We'll delete it when we're done troubleshooting. If that works for you, you can upload your file privately to our support team here. We'll give it a test and let you know what we find!
