Resume Function not working properly in LMS

Feb 19, 2014

For the Storyline Projects published as Scorm 1.2, where tracking is a results slide and the project is graded quiz questions, the students are unable to leave and resume.  As each question is submitted to the LMS individually, if they have completed 5 of the 20 questions when they leave, then they receive a score of 25% and must retake the entire activity.

If the project is tracked as "complete" by number of slides seen, then students can leave and resume.  This is only useful if students are merely watching a tutorial, and I want to see if they bothered to watch the entire thing.

What am I doing wrong?  I need to let students leave the bank of questions and resume at a later time.

Hi Rhonda,

For both set ups, have you enabled the Resume behavior as described here?

Also, you'll want to review this article on troubleshooting common LMS issues, specifically testing your course at SCORM Cloud to see if the behavior is reproducible. If not, you'll want to connect with your LMS team. If the course doesn't resume in SCORM Cloud, are you able to share the Storyline file here with us and tell us a bit more about how you're testing this (browser, ipad vs. computer, etc.)?

Yes, the Resume was enabled properly. The issue was with the LMS.

Thank you for your response.  The general rule of thumb is that the LMS blames the software......and the software blames the LMS.  So, I troubleshoot from both ends.....Thank you for directing me to the SCORM Cloud where I can test myself to determine the source of the issue.

Downloaded the Scorm to SCORM Cloud where it worked flawlessly.

I had my LMS troubleshooting the problem and this was their reply:

We have figured out what is going on. Your SCORM module is sending the "core.score.raw" value frequently to our LMS before the assignment is finished, and we are interpreting that as the final score and not allowing resumption. We will do some research now to find out whether the issue is with our interepretion of core.score.raw or with your SCORM module's behavior of sending it before the assignment is over.

Is there a way to only send the score from the result slide to the LMS when the module is completed  instead of sending a value with every question?

I have it set to submit individually.

I want the students to know that the question is wrong or right at the time that they answer the question.  Many of the slides, I have feedback which clearly explains why they are wrong.   Some of the questions have multiple attempts enabled.   The only way to do this is to submit individually.

However, I see that the submit individually sends a raw score to the LMS with each question.  The LMS obviously is not programmed to accept this additional information.

My question is:  With the questions set to submit individually, is the LMS supposed to be able to resume a graded quiz with the questions set to submit individually?  OR do I have to choose between students being able to receive question feedback and students being able to resume?

When I used quizmaker 09, I didn't have this issue.  Students could both resume and receive feedback and multiple attempts at questions.
